It's been five years since the last Glen Helen National but the opener to the 2014 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series did not disappoint the more than 27,000 fans who braved the hot San Bernardino, CA desert on Saturday.

MotoSport missed a few of our sponsored riders in Davi Millsaps who is out until Round 5 and Joey Savatgy who is hopeful to return next week. However, Weston Peick turned in a solid performance finishing in fifth place for Moto 1 and 13th place for Moto 2 for an overall ninth-place. Jimmy Albertson took 17th place twice for a 17th overall.

Rounding out the rest, Ryan Dungey and Ken Roczen, teammates on the Red Bull KTM team, battled each other in an exciting Moto 2 and Dungey emerged the victor. Roczen took the MotoSport Holeshot award in Moto 2 and fended off his teammate the entire race before Dungey took the lead near the end of the final lap.

Dungey went 3-1 for the overall registering his first win at Glen Helen and Roczen, his first year on the 450 in Motocross, went 2-2 for second overall.

"It was really just a game of cat and mouse the whole time," Dungey said. "I felt like the win was there early on, but I just needed to make that pass happen. It was good to go (first and second) with a teammate and it was a good day for KTM."

Josh Grant grabbed the MotoSport Holeshot award in Moto 1 and never looked back but he landed in 15th place for Moto 2 resulting in a fifth-overall. Trey Canard rounded out the podium finishing 7-3. Brett Metcalfe, who won the 2013 Canadian Motocross finished in fourth place with a 4-5 showing but is tied with Canard in Championship points with 34.

In the 250 series, Jason Anderson, the reigning 2014 Supercross 250 champion, who rides on the MotoSport-sponsored Rockstar Energy KTM team, took third in Moto 1 but finished in 31st for Moto 2 after crashing. He struggled to get his bike back upright, losing time, pushing him to the back of the field. He finished in 10th overall.
