2021 Houston Round 1 Supercross Recap

Justin Barcia stepped on the GasGas and held off Ken Roczen to take Round 1 of the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross season held Saturday NRG Stadium in Houston, TX.

Barcia won the opening round for the third year in a row but this year he joins a new team and rides a GasGas. Roczen held his own tailing Barcia for much of the evening before settling on second. Veteran Marvin Musquin finished third. Reigning Champion Eli Tomac finished 13th after tangling with Vince Friese a few times and like in past years has to dig out of an early hole.

In the 250 East class, Christian Craig checked out for his first win in five years. Austin Forkner showed no ill effects from his brutal crash that ended the 2020 Supercross season and took second while Colt Nichols rounded out the podium.

The 2021 Supercross season takes on a new look this year in an attempt to successfully navigate through the coronavirus pandemic that nearly derailed the 2020 season. Therefore, riders remain in Houston for Round 2 today and Round 3 on Saturday.
