Description Item #CSB0005

Important note: This piston is for a stock sized bore. Please measure your cylinder to check clearance before ordering.

ProX pistons are precision machined on the latest, state of the art CNC equipment. The same low-expansion, low-friction piston alloy is used as is used for all major Japanese and European engine manufacturers. ProX Piston Kits are a first class solution to replace the original piston in your machine.

Most ProX pistons come with a coating. The O.E.M. style tin-coated pistons assist the wear-in process as when you first started the bike. ProX has developed a new skirt coating that not only assists the wear-in process, but also helps reducing friction after the wear-in. The black coating is made from a delicate mix of materials and will increase performance.

  • Cast piston puts engine back to standard specs without boring or replacing cylinder.
  • Interchanges directly with O.E.M. part.
  • Piston kit comes complete with piston, rings, pin and end clips.

Very good replacement piston

This piston is available in different clearances to fit your bore perfectly. It has a wider ring end gap than a Wiseco, but in my instance this was a good thing because it allowed me to run pump gas without worrying about damaging my engine, not to mention much easier to start.

Great!

Good piston. Gave me same power as other brand name pistons. Great price. After a good bit of riding I took the piston off due to a lack of power and found a big chunk missing from it but oh well will buy again

Great price great piston. One slight issue

Great piston for the price. Developed the same power I get from use of other pistons I have tried. Easy to install. One thing is I took the piston off due to a lack of power and it has this big chunk broken off. Never dropped the piston so got not clue on that either way im buying another one

Good replacement

I have been told that Pro-X supplies the OEM's. If that is true, then their pistons should be as good as Honda's. Only issue was that I replaced a Pro-X that lost a piston skirt after less than 30 hours. I was told that 2003 CR250's eat piston's though, and that 25-30 hours may be expected.

A: If you are just replacing the piston, then you need to first know the bore of the cylinder. This can be done by using a bore gauge to find the diameter or by reading the owner’s manual to find the bore specifications. Ultimately, the bore should be measured for the best possible results. After the diameter is known, then you can pick which size piston will work best in your cylinder. Remember to maintain about a 0.05mm (0.002”) piston to cylinder clearance, depending on application. If you are having a cylinder re-plated, then you will want to choose a piston of the OE bore size (an A or B size is probably best). When you send the piston and cylinder away to get re-plated, the plating facility will match the cylinder bore to piston diameter. If you have a cast iron bore cylinder and you are sending the piston and cylinder off to a machinist to be bored out, then you will want a piston that is oversized from the current diameter. For example: If your current bore is 64.00mm, then you will want to choose a 64.50mm or similar oversized piston. The machinist boring the cylinder will bore and hone the cylinder to match the piston size. Also, feel free to give us a call at 888-676-8853 and we would be happy to help you out with your order.

Q: Which Piston To Use on an A Cylinder?
2 years 9 months ago
I have a 2006 YZ 85 that needs a Top-End change. The Cylinder is marked with an (A). However all the after market piston don't have the letter designation. My question is does it matter or should I get it from Yamaha?

A: After a bike has been ran and is due for a piston change, the cylinder has worn enough that you can install any "stock bore" piston in it. The sizing difference between an A to B cylinder is only .0001"-.0002" when they are new. This is why aftermarket companies such as Wiseco only offer 1 size piston for all the Yamaha A,B,C,D cylinders.

A: This will vary based on what bike it is for. If you can give us a call with your model specific information, we can let you know if it is a 1 or 2 ring piston for your application.
