Good straight line and corner traction. Will always go this tire if I'm unsure of the hare scramble course.

The history of Michelin's involvement in off-road racing and the long history of the S12 XC dirt bike tire makes for a competition-ready tire that you can trust to get you to the finish line.
- The Michelin S12 XC tire was strictly designed for traction in soft terrain; the newest S12 XC tire takes it a step further and improved the durability in conjunction with better grip.
- The reformulated rubber mixture on the S12 XC improves durability by at least 25% from previous Michelin tires.
- A championship tire needs to transmit feedback efficiently and Michelin improved this on the S12 XC with a redesigned casing by adding a ply and adding thickness to the sidewalls in the bead area.
- Maintaining the proven tread pattern was exactly what Michelin did with the S12 XC tire; the shoulder pattern promotes cornering stability. Keeping the lugs clear from mud build up is accomplished with the S12 XC tires unique 45 knobs.
Michelin Sizing Conversion:
Michelin has their own proprietary method for measuring their off-road XC tires: The width of Cross tires is measured at the level of the base of the tread blocks, while for Enduro tires, it is measured by the overall dimension, that is to say at the widest point which is the top of the tread blocks. Since this may confuse customers who ordered based on their fitment but received a tire which appears to be incorrectly sized, the chart below has been provided. It converts from standard sizing (as purchased) to Michelin's sizes (written on tire sidewalls).
- Conventional size 80/100-21 = Michelin size of 90/90-21.
- Conventional size 100/90-19 = Michelin size of 120/80-19.
- Conventional size 110/90-19 = Michelin size of 130/70-19.
- Conventional size 100/100-18 = Michelin size of 120/90-18.
- Conventional size 110/100-18 = Michelin size of 130/80-18.
- Conventional size 120/90-18 = Michelin size of 140/80-18.
Best tires for Michigan trails
This is one of the best all round tires I've used to date (Have been through over a half a dozen so far). From mud to intermediate/hard terrain, this tire shines in any condition. Tremendous grip and wear for an XC tire. Highly recommend for anyone into trail riding / Hare Scrambles / Enduro where the terrain is primarily Soft - Intermediate. It does hook up decent on rocks / boulders, but it will tear them right up in no time. So for straight up Extreme Enduro Conditions, I use either a trials tire in the rear or the Pirelli MT16 Rear and Bridge M59 in the front.
But again for most of the riding I do (Hare Scrambles / Trails / Some MX for practice), the Micheline S12 XC tire (Front & Rear) is a top notch combo.
I have purchased many S12 XC Michelins in the past and Ive never been let down! The rubber is top notch and the look on the bike is like no other. It has amazing turning grip and stopping power is stout. The tires last very long down here in the south where there arent too many rocks. So i recommend it to you. B class off road racer.
I have tried several tires, but these michelin's feel like i can really get into the corners especially on soft terrain tracks!
Great tire for the price!
I ride XC all across the mid South. This tire is the best I have found for most conditions. These tires do run small. Be sure of sizing before you order.
My two favorite sand tires are this (s12XC) and the Maxxis MS. The Maxxis has better straight line hook up, but I think the S12 is better for Harescrambles as the side traction is better on roots.
It works where no other tire does. Wet ,muddy, slick rocks. Great gncc, cross country & enduro tire!
Perfect for trail riding! Best tire I have had in the mountains by far. Will never by another rear tire other than this one.
I love Michelins, but this tire was horribly. I have this tire on my 2011 YZ250 F, Six motos on a primarily sand track, and nearly all the side knobbies are chuncked off. The center knobs look fine. I'm going back to a MS or MH 3.
this is the best tire ive ever put on my bike ,even though i ordered a 110/100 and got a 130 ?? still worked great .
Was running a M12 XC rear and S12 in the front. Decided that rear M12 tire was not the best suited for riding in muddy, slippery and gnarly singletrack conditions. The difference between the M12 and the S12 is AMAZING. The S12 tire performs as advertised. The side bite and the predictability of this tire was outstanding.
this is my 9th michelin s12 xc that i have bought, would never use anything else, no other tire lasts as long and resists chunking as well.
Ran this tire on my 450 with good results. The 100-90-19 is way different though. Knobs are much smaller and chunked off bad on my 250f. In thick mud it does not hook up at all. In hardpack it shreads knobs. In sand it is good as long as it is prepped and firm though there are way better tires for a prepped track.
I bought this based on a recommendation from a friend. I am very happy so far. This tire hooks up well and seems to be wearing at a slow pace. I have always used the MS3 but they do not make that in an 18inch size so this was my option.
GREAT TIRE AND GREAT PRICE , WEARS VERY GOOD AND HOOKS UP NICE , I WOULD RECOMEND THE TIRE TO A FRIEND.
I am a michelin man but i always bought the starcross tires until i got talked into buying this tire and its by far the best tire iv ever used i race harescrambles and im commin up on my 3rd race on this tire and its still 95% there and iv been down the road a total of 15 miles this thing hooks up amazing in wet terrain not sure on sand never rode in it with the tire but very good i race c class and could make it up hill climbs that pros made 2 attempts at so id highly recomend this tire
I love this tire. I have tried many tires over the years, and sure they all work, but the S12 works great. When riding in wet to soft soil, this tire performs well. However like any other tire, if you ride on hard packed dirt and such the tire will wear. Its a soft compound tire for a reason, to be ridden in soft soil, sand, mud, etc. Only thing I see being an issue, is that I wish they had a wider size for 19' rims.
