Perfect fit for factory muffler

Used this packing for my factory KX450F muffler. It's just the right amount of material. Took 2 min to repack the muffler and got rid of the rasp of burnt packing.

Quieted the exhaust, easy install

Surprising how easy it rolled in and stayed in position. The wrap really did a good job to lessen the exhaust noise, previous wrap was the string type.

Product seems good, have to ride to tell more.

The packing went in very easily, looks good, sounds good, just too soon to give any higher than average on a few topics until I ride it hard for a bit.

Not very exciting but gets the job done.

It's a lot more fun to put on new tires or graphics but sometimes you gotta do the routine stuff. Repacking your muffler improves performance (slightly) and reduces noise. Less noise = more riding area. So make this a part of your regular maintenance.

Older powercore4 on 02 trx400ex sportrax?
This exhaust is too loud. When I remove the endcap(oval-4 screws); all I see is a rectangular void all the way to the pipe. There is a screen lining that forms the rectangular shape, with nothing thru the middle. Is there a rectangular baffle to insert? Or; does the screening come out to be wrapped with packing? I really need help here! Thanks....Wally

Sounds like you are missing the center part that would be wrapped with packing which FMF does not sell separately. Feel free to give us a call at 888-676-8853 and we would be happy to help you out with your order.

Does this include the chrome pipe and the spark arrest or in this picture or not?

This would just be the internal packing material. It would not include the pipe or any of the parts for the silencer.

We do not carry l the internals to rebuild FMF pipes other than the packing material. I would recommend getting in contact with FMF directly for replacement parts. http://www.FMFRACING.com

The "chrome pipe and push rod" are referred to as a silencer or in MotoSport lingo just an "exhaust". If you search under Exhaust and put in the make, model and year of your bike you will see the available parts. Some are listed as "complete" and will include the head pipe. Look for the ones that say "slip-on exhaust". Of course, you won't need the packing if you buy a new exhaust; it will have new packing installed when you receive it.

TRX 450R 04/05?
will work on my TRX 450R 04/05 with stock pipe ?

Unfortunately the stock pipe is not a packing type exhaust and this will not work in it. It uses internal baffles and diffusers to control the sound output. If the exhaust has become increasingly loud it is time for a new exhaust.

Do you need special packing for a carbon fiber silencer or does it all use the same stuff?
Expert MotoSport Staff

Carbon Fiber Canisters do not require special packing, this will work just fine. I will add though, you should never allow the packing to break down in a carbon can, changing it often will increase the life of your exhaust.

No it will work with a 4-stoke as well. However it will blow out the packing fairly quick. The FMF packing is cheap but will not last as long as others. FMF makes great stuff this just isnt a great choice for a 4-stroke.

they have 2 and 4 stroke packing kits I would order accordingly.

Where can you buy the stringy looking stuff, what is the best brand, and how hard is it to install the stringy looking stuff?

We actually don't stock the fmf packing you're talking about, it's the FMF Performance Packing. We can special order it in for you. My buddy loves using the stringy packing, and he says it makes it a little easier to pack than the mat type packing.

The "stringy looking stuff is the muffler packing. Most muffler packing is the same regardless of muffler brand. I have used the FMF packing on my 2009 KX250F for a while and it works fine on my stock muffler. Replacing the packing is an easy process. Remove the muffler insert, remove the old packing, wrap the new packing around the insert, secure with heat resistant tape and reinstall. Takes about 10 minutes. And, your bike will be a little quieter.
