I totally screwed up by not reading the directions first and thinking I knew it all the easy way to do this chain replacement is break the chain with a grinder or the cheap chain breaker from harbor freight don't break your tips for the easy stuff. The rivet tip is handy. Wish the site came with a video of the more inexperienced users so the real experts can show the novices how to correctly use other wise good product a little expensive but worth the price.

Broke 2 pins with the first couple times using
Ordered it to make 520 master link on CRF 250X but the anvil insert sheared into four pieces on its first use. The kit is nice but the tooling appears mostly cast and is not machined from hardened alloy or tool steel that would make the tool durable. Using the recommended box wrench, it only generates enough torque to mushroom the OD of each rivet to the low side of the tolerance. This is not the tool I expected from Motion Pro. Perhaps it is suitable for smaller chains and Motion Pro needs to offer a kit suitable for common 520 drive chains. However, Motosport exceeded my expectations taking care of the issue and since the broken part was on back order, they shipped a new kit out right away.
I am not new to bikes or tools but this thing was total junk. Breaks very easily even when using it properly... Straight to the trash, never buying anything from this brand again.
I bought the chain breaker, and followed all the instructions perfectly. Only problem I had was with riveting my new chain link. The large anvil was made with a groove so the link would stay in place , but if too much pressure is applied in the middle, it will snap and leave you unhappy. I substituted a press plate for the broken anvil and it worked. Everything else in the tool kit did what it was intended to do. Do not put a lot of pressure on the anvil or any other part, and you'll be fine.
Broke one of the pins learning how to use it..but the other pins work perfect and can take the place of the broken one. Take your time learning how to use this tool and it will last a long time like mine!!
Awesome Motion Pro kit!!! Great directions! And yes, grind the peen off before thinking you can push it through especially on a 530 chain. It's simple physics and common sense. Simply cutting the old worn out chain off with a grinder is faster and easier. The rivet pin works awesome on new street chains with rivet style master links! DO NOT OVER FLARE IT IS KEY!!! Follow the directions with one revolution! Thanks MotoSport for having this in stock available with super fast shipping.
If you want to brake your chain and then re-install a new one this product will do it. Just be careful and read the directions..one of the components is fragile and can brake if you don't follow the directions...that's my fault. I have used this 5 times already and it still kicks butt!!
Worked great for removing my old chain. However, when trying to break the new chain so I could install the masterlink, the breaker tip shattered. Haven't been able to use the riveting tip yet.
Works great, but as several other reviews mention, you must grind off the pin on a 520 chain. It's very easy to use.
(NOT HEAVY DUTY) This tool broke the first time i used it. I ended up having to grind the pin and making a home made tool to get the pin thru on the chain. I read the instructions and did exactly what it said. (I have thrown better stuff in the trash) Save your money and get something better
motion pro got it right, works like a champ and very easy to use.
I've used this on a number of links and never had any issues. You can use this on a chain up to 520 without having to grind the heads off. As a complete kit, it's a pretty good setup, aside from being costly.
Does exactly what it says it does. Make sure you grind the rivets down before using this and it will work every time. I did use it one time in a pinch without grinding the rivet. It worked fine but I would never recommend it to anyone. Read the instructions and have patience with this tool and it will treat you well.
Does exactly what it should do when I needed it to. After filing down the old rivets on my D.I.D 530 chain the tool pushed the pins right out with ease. I put on a new D.I.D 530 chain and the press plates and rivet tool did the trick. After 300 plus miles on the chain, no problems.
The product work good, i broke one of the breaker bits but that was my fault for not properly lining it up... havent used the rivet part yet due to the chain i bought had a snap in master link.
