I am normally between a 36-38 jean waist, 34" inseam, straight or boot cut. I got 36x34 in these because of a video review that appeared to show a lot of stretch in the waist. There is a HIGE amount of stretch in this fabric, everywhere in the jean. I thought they were too tight because the "hugged" my thigh and calves. I showed them to my wife and a rider friend before I removed the tags and they said, "they look like the fit is great", not too tight or skinny. On the bike they stretch your knee bend, and it's nice the family jewels are comfy too. I did feel the removable knee pads where too much, as they were VERY obvious with the stretch-cling type fit. I removed them and put them in a more roomy pair of riding jeans I have, that did not come with pads. Without the pads the knees still fell quite well padded. I wore them for the first time in an all day charity Moose Riders event yesterday in 83 degree weather. I was surprised that they "breathed" nicely on a hotter day. Maybe because of the stretch? Not sure, but I like these riding jeans once I got used to the slimmer, slightly "compression" type fit.
