Tough enough for the OBDR

Just finished an 1,815 mile trip that included Oregon Back Country Discovery Route 5. I rode a KLR and had two buddies on Honda African Twins. We all had fresh sets of the Shinkos and agreed that the tires performed well on all the roads and trails which included sharp crushed gravel, sand, shards of obsidian and rocks the size of baby-heads. The photo shows the rear tire after roughly 2,000 miles

Below average

I got about 2400 miles out of the back one, on mostly pavement. Tried it out on a lot of gravel roads, but the tire doesn't give me any confidence in the corners at all. These are the only Shinko's I won't buy again...

Shinko Big Block Tires

I've been running these tire on my BMW GSA1200
I'm on my third set. Average 5000 miles on rear a little more on the front.
Traction on dry roads is very good. Off-road in dirt or gravel is very good also. Not so good in the muddy sections. Overall great tire on a GS.

A: This tire would be sufficient for 40% on-road and 60% off-road, which sounds similar to what you are asking.

A: They will not in the front since they don't have them in a 17" but the rear you could run the 140/80-17 option.
