I purchased this a couple of weeks ago and have used is twice on the trail. The protection is great - just what I was looking for. Due to its padded construction, it's a little heavy and you'll be a little warmer as you ride, but the protection is well worth the trade. This is not a simple molded piece of plastic. I don't feel it is constricting in any way. For me, it was a solid upgrade from what I had before and I'm very happy with the purchase.
I own and tried 4 different types of chest protectors over the years. In the past when it was hot I would use a full coverage roost guard and when the weather was cooler I would use a padded body suit for better protection. When using the hard shell roost guard I felt the hard shell protected me from penetrating injury and when I fell it dissipated the force. The padded body suit provided better rib protection but was too hot to wear on humid days. I finally pulled the trigger on the Airframe Pro Jacket and have been happy ever since. It is a great combination of a hard shell with great rib protection and the soft lining is similar to a soft shell body suit that absorbs the impact well. I haven't used it in a spill yet but find the ventilation good enough to wear on hot humid days. Overall after many years I've finally found a perfect chest protector that combines a hard shell protection with padded inner layer and adequate rib protection. I suggest you consider this product.
Fit and quality seam to be great. A little restrictive at first with my neck brace, but some adjustments helped out a bunch. It’s heavy and hot. Definitely heavier than the old style designs and I won’t wear it when it is over 80 degrees out.
I am 54 and a longboarder. I have a few electric longboards. Recently I had my first real wipe-out on my e-board and at 12 mph, went flying from my board and towards the asphalt. In my mind, real quick, I reasoned that since I didn't have hand knee or wrist protection that it would be best to try to land flat. Well, the short of it is I landed on my right shoulder, breaking my collar bone and 4 ribs.
I now have this Fox Airframe upper-body protection that if I had would have fully protected me. It gives a cushion, with hard plastic on the outside that will slide along the asphalt after the initial impact. The shoulder protection is definitely world-class - much like the shoulder pads that quarterbacks wear - to diminish being crushed.
I am now boarding again and not afraid to push it again because I have all the needed gear, which is all just as protective as this Fox Airframe Pro Jacket
Bought to protect my back and ribs ..does a good job
Felt really comfortable riding forgot it was there, recommend to my friends
Looking for full protection. It's got it. Fits well
Where the sweet chesty into battle you'll come out on top
Right when I took it out of the box I could feel the quality. It is very protective and very sturdy. It is however bulkier than other roost guards but it is also more protective so keep that in mind. I gave it 4 stars only because when I wear it, it isn't the most comfortable protector, the foam is kind of on the hard side, but it does have to be broken in, then it will feel different. keep in mind the shoulder pads are in an awkward position being hard to get them wear you want them. I found a good position for them. They're design is meant for head on contact, they sit in front almost of the shoulder rather than right on top. overall I really like this protector and would recommend it.
