Q: How long are the cables that come with the grips?

Do you have to splice into a hot wire such as a key switch wire or do they connect directly to the battery for power?

A: You'll connect directly to your battery and you'll get enough length to run the wiring to the battery under your seat.
Q: Do they come with open ends? Or can the ends be cut out for guards?

A: I contacted A'ME with your question to confirm, here is their answer:

Yes, the grips can be modified to accept hand guards without doing harm to the internal heating element. There are two ways to accomplish this.

1. You may enlarge a hole at the end of the grip. Using a Dremel type hand grinder or a drill, create or enlarge the hole at the end of the grip to match the inside diameter of the handlebar. This will allow you to put the expanding insert from the handguard through the end of the grip and into the handlebar.

2. A second option would be to cut the end of the grip off. This can be done using a sharp knife or fine toothed saw. On the ATV Tri grip locate the position where the end cap of the grip tapers down to the grip body located 3/8 inch from the end of the grip. Cutting the grip at this point will not harm the heating element and will allow the handlebar to extend through the grip. DO NOT cut the end off beyond the 3/8 inch mark or damage to the heating element could occur.

These solutions should allow the mounting of wrap around style handguards.
