What It Is
Introduced to the public in 2005, the Alpinestars Tech 10 has under gone continual upgrades throughout th past three years. In fact, the current Tec 10 is much, much different than the ver sion that we initially tested in late 2004 so we figured it was time to give them second look.
Hits
Thanks to improved side pads in the ankle area, the new Tech 10 provides ample support, yet nice flexion once the boots break in. Aggressive gripper pads on the insides of the ankle make gripping your motorcycle easy, resulting in greater control. The toe box has been slenderized, making them easier to feel the shifter through. The new torsion bars on the inner bootie are less restrictive and much more comfortable than the originals that we tested three years ago. The new bootie has a taller, more padded tongue that is very plush and comfy.
Misses
The Tech 10 is a very stiff boot when new, and required a couple days of riding before they were comfortable. The buckles are hard to completely snap shut; especially the top buckle, because the boot is more flexible there and it is hard to apply proper pressure to it.
The Verdict
As it has been from the start, the Alpinestars Tech 10 remains a different feeling boot that certain riders will love, and other riders will dislike. Engineered to the moon, there is plenty of protection built in to the Tech 10; we just wish there was more comfort involved.
