Great helmet

Always try a helmet on for size in a store first. I knew what size to get online, but I probably would have ordered too big if I hadn't tried it on first.

Favorite Helmet by a HUGE MARGIN

This is my first "premium" helmet. I've had a number of HJCs and Scorpions but they just can't compare in terms of quality, weight, and AIRFLOW. The vents on this helmet actually work really well!

It is important to note that the fitment is particular to more oval shaped heads.

Great helmet

This is mostly a comparative review, because I feel that it makes sense to compare it to other top level helmets.
Before I review this helmet let me tell you that in the past 10 years I have owned and used a Shoei X11, a Shoei x12, and lately an Arai RX7XX (Corsair V in US).
Out of all of the above the RF1200 is the most comfortable and quietest with all the bikes I have been riding-street, supermoto and scooters.
I mostly use it on the freeway, so noise is an important factor because I ride at stable speeds and as you know the hissing noise is not only uncomfortable, but also damaging to the ears. The Arai is the loudest of all and the noise it caused was the deciding factor to replace it with the RF1200.
Comfort wise it is not as tight as the other 3 helmets above, which is good for me when I ride in town and I have to take it off and put it on frequently. By that, I do not imply that it fits loosely or that it is shaky. It just fits right. All of the above helmets fit right for me, so I don't have a problem, but the Arai is a little tighter making it not as comfortable for everyday use.
I also like the fact that it comes with an antifog sleeve that "sticks" to the visor, something that Arai also came with, but not the older Shoei helmets that I have.
In terms of weight it feels lighter than the Arai above and similar to the other Shoei helmets above.
Changing the visor is very easy (as easy as the other Shoei helmets). The Arai's visor mechanism uses a different method, but for me either method was fine once I got used to the Arai's.
Overall I think that this is the best helmet for everyday riding but also never had any shaking or heavy noise issue even at high speeds of up to 160 miles per hour. On the contrary the Arai is VERY LOUD at high speeds.

Shoei RF1200

I was pretty thorough when researching a new helmet purchase. Since I already have a Shoei TZ1, I'm familiar with Shoei quality, and naturally researched their line of helmets. After feeling confident of my selection, I purchased one from So this review is not only a helmet review, but one reflecting my experience with MotoSport as well, who promptly shipped this helmet at a very competitive price, with free shipping.

Other than the obviously apparent quality construction of the helmet, it's performance has to be first in it's price class.

The venting: This is the first helmet I've used in 35 + years of riding, that did not fog on cooler evening rides. And I haven't even attached the INCLUDED pinlock shield. The venting alone has eliminated fogging with the shield completely closed. And it makes riding in an enclosed helmet feel less confining.

The aerodynamics: This is also the first time I've actually seen debris and insects be directed AROUND my head. I have to conclude this is due to the aerodynamic design, because my TZ1 sure takes a lot of hits!

Sound: Since I always wear earplugs under a helmet, it may not seem this particular quality of the helmet would make a difference. But, for me, it does. The air flows so smoothly around the helmet, that not only is it quieter, but there is significantly less buffeting.

Engineering: It's superb! Removable liner, perfect fit and comfort, excellent visibility and an easy to remove adjustable shield.

Bottom line is this. If you're looking for a top quality DOT and SNELL approved helmet, the Shoei RF1200 should be on your list of considerations.

Great helmet

The helmet fits perfectly, very snug but with no pressure points. I've tried on the Arai RX-Q and Corsair in the same size, and my chin hits the front of those helmets.

The face shields seals with no leaks when closed, and clarity of the shield is great. Ventilation is good.

A: No, this helmet comes with the Snell M2010 and DOT Certified sticker only. For the SAI sticker it would need to be purchased from a dealer in Australia.
