Good gloves for winter commuting.

I bought a pair of full gauntlet winter gloves from another manufacturer a while back. While the gauntlet gloves are very warm, they are not easy to put on as you have to tuck the inner liner under the cuff of your riding jacket and then zip the outer shell over the cuff. The first glove is manageable, but the second is tough unless you have somebody to help you. There is nobody to help me at 0530 when I am putting on my gear to commute to work.

I starting shopping for a short insulated glove to use on my daily commute. The REV'IT! Hydra H20 looked promising and were reasonably priced so I decided to order a pair. My hands measure 8 inches around the knuckles, and I wear a small in Mechanix and other common gloves. I ordered the Hydras in small, and out of the package, they fit tight. After a few weeks of use, they broke in and now fit just right. I use them every morning on my 20 minute commute to work. Typical temperature on this winter trip is low 40s, and I can make the trip comfortably without needing heated grips. If I was riding further, I would definitely turn on the heated grips as my fingers are starting to feel the cold at the end of the commute. I can't comment on the water proof feature of the gloves as I haven't used them in rain.

Overall, I like the gloves for commuting but I would select something warmer for long winter rides.

At the controls.
