This chain can handle much more than 500cc

I recently built a 1996 Harley Sportster 1200cc chopper which originally came with a belt drive which I converted to chain drive. Just about everyone who does these types of conversions use a 530 chain to handle the power but I opted for the 520 (which is lighter and less rotating mass which equals better performance) cause I know how durable Renthal O-ring chains are and the abuse they can take. This chain is rated for up to 500cc yet I have a 1200cc Harley Davidson engine which has many performance upgrade parts installed which now produces more HP than an average 1200cc yet this chain works flawlessly and has handled everything I've thrown at it. I live in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania near the east coast and last June I packed up my Harley with all the camping gear and supplies I would need for a month long cross country motorcycle trip, pointed the front wheel to the west and rode across this great continent, I hammered through the cornfields of the great plains, over the Colorado Rockies, down through death valley (middle of summer middle of the day, so hot), over the California Sierras and on to the pacific ocean, rode up the the coast along PCH and then did it all over again cutting back across the continent to my starting point in PA, I was on the road for over a month riding 12 hours a day which totaled 6,250 miles in all by the time I got back home and this chain performed perfectly even know I went over 3,000 miles between lubing it up. It took the heat and sand of death valley to the cold ice and snow of the Rockies. This is an amazing chain and will not let you down. I cant think of a more demanding test of this chain and I never was able to push it to it's breaking point, yes I had some areas which has some minor stretching but that was more due to my lack of lubrication while in the desert and also doing burn outs and wheelies while at The Born Free 8 motorcycle rally in California. Ride Hard and Ride Long my friends, this is one chain you will not have to worry about failing on you. I'm planning another cross country motorcycle trip this 2017 summer and you bet your sweet behind this will be the chain powering my journey. !!! HIGH SPEED - LOW DRAG - KNEES IN THE BREEZE !!! Ride on my two wheel brethren! Mark,

Awewome Chain

I have this chain on all of my bikes. I have put 36 hrs on my trail bike and have only adjusted the chain twice. It is a little on the heavy side, but for novice/amateur racing it doesn't bother me. Definitely worth the money spent!

Poor durability

ive been riding and servicing motorcycles for 45 years. I installed this chain in 2012 and after just 3200 miles of street riding it has failed, its been regularly adjusted and lubed with pj1, but this summer I noticed rust on the links and upon closer inspection found some of the orings mia and pins corroded, chain has worn rapidly and failed. its evident something in their production methods has changed and not for the better.

Renthal chain

This is the best chain i have ever bought. I have ridden my yz450f really hard for about 25hrs and i havent had to adjust the chain at all. The chain came with 2 master links which is very helpful. I will only buy Renthal chains.

Solid chain

Seems to be a solid chain. Time will tell how much it stretches. Surface clean up and warm up and PJ lube will make it live.

Great replacement chain.

Its a great chain that works great. I bought it as a replacement because the one I was previously using was getting pretty bad. I wouldn't recommend it to replace a functional chain but renthal is usually delivers a good product and I can't really complain about it. The gold color is a nice touch as well.

Awesome performance

I bought this chain for my 89 banshee. Installed with the proper tools with ease. I rode the sand for three days without hardly any wear showing. I would have ran it some more but blew a motor :-(

Renthal 520 R3 O-Ring Chain

Such a hard wearing chain you really can't go wrong! We installed with a renthal front sprocket, supersprox steel rear and only had to adjust once in the first hour of riding. After that its maintained it integrity perfectly...60hrs of abusive sand riding on our rmz250 and looks good to go another 60!

Is a spacer required when installing this chain on a 2004 Yamaha YZ250 (to provide adequate clearance between the chain and case)?
MotoSportExpert

A: No. The only bikes that really have issues with clearance is the CRF 450/250 bikes with O X or Z ring chains if they are not made thin.

Q: Does a crf250r need a sprocket spacer with this chain?

Does a crf250r need a front sprocket spacer with this chain? Or does it fit without one? I know on some bikes the chain will grind on the case due to it being a wider chain

A: No, you will not need a spacer on your 2006 Honda CRF250R to run the Renthal 520 R3 O-Ring Chain.
