Product Description

Vortex Sprocket:

  • With the Vortex® sprocket and chain kit you can expect race quality and killer street looks.
  • The Vortex® black aluminum rear sprocket will not only make your motorcycle look faster, it will increase your motorcycle's acceleration by reducing the rotating mass. In addition to quicker acceleration, reduced rotating mass also translates into quicker braking and better handling.
  • Vortex® makes their front sprockets out of high quality stainless steel that has been drilled to save weight.
  • The Vortex® rear sprocket has been anodized black for a durable finish and non-stock look. Constructed of the highest quality 7075 T6 aluminum maximizes durability and weight savings.
  • Vortex® uses a CNC machining process to ensure the tightest tolerances and reduced chain drag.
  • Match these Vortex® sprockets up with a RK or DID chain for the ultimate combo on your motorcycle.

RK Chain:

  • All RK Sealed O-ring type chains feature heat treated hi-carbon alloy steel components with seamless rollers and shouldered bushings, and are fitted with a variety of O-ring seal designs.
  • All RK O-ring seals are made from an advanced Nitrile Butadiene composite for maximum performance and wearlife.

D.I.D Chain:

  • D.I.D's Patented X-Ring construction reduces friction by twisting between the side plates instead of being squashed. Normal O-Rings and other makers' modified O-Rings have squashed points that increase friction. The twisting action of the X-Ring disperses the pressure and minimizes power loss.
  • The X-Ring's four contact points greatly increase its sealing performance. This keeps the dirt out and the lubrication in much better than any other O-Ring. X-Rings have the greatest wear resistance of any other type of O-Ring or Non-O-Ring chain.

By far the best upgrade you can do to transform a bikes power. Feels like 15 hp added. I did 1 dwn tooth in the front and 2 up in the back and it gves such a great amout of torque to the rear wheel. Top end is sacrificed but I don't do 160 on the highways anymore. Torque in the turns is much more fun.

Good kit
Sprockets were good. Mounted up like every other sprocket. Fit perfectly on my track bike. Can't say that it made me any faster, but now it is much easier to change gear ratios with different sprocket options.

This set is a great deal! You know everything is compatible and the aluminum rear sprocket weighs less than the smaller front sprocket. I have purchased a few Vortex products for my bike, and I'm extremely pleased with all of them. I've had the chain and sprockets on now for 5 months. I haven't needed to adjust the chain and the black sprocket still looks great.

Great product
Great kit I really like the black sprocket. I didn't like the stock grease on the chain it flew off everywhere and is a pain to clean off. But it came off with the cleaner from the Grunge Brush also on this site.

Great price
This is a great price for this kit. The 520 kit makes the bike a little snappier but does not last as long. The Aluminum sprocket is way lighter and looks awesome but wears considerably quicker than steel.

Great upgrade
I got this kit almost a year ago and have put about 4000 miles since installing it. The chain has barely stretched at all and the sprockets have barely worn. This gsxr600 is my first sport bike so maybe this is normal. i am used to motorcross where you replace chains and sprockets all the time. i am very pleased and surprised with the way this chain and sprocket set has held up. also with the lighter weight and -1 +2 gearing the bike takes off much much quicker just beware of higher rpms cruising on the highway and lots of speedo error!

Very Good Product
I went with the -1/+3 and i noticed a very big difference! I have told alot of other riders about it and they have ordered the same too! great product and a great price!

I have a 97 ninja ex500 what can I do to make it faster for drag and to stunt?
MotoSport Staff
2 months 24 days ago Location: Portland, OR, USA
Well, since "drag" and "stunt" need opposing gear ratios for you to benefit, you would need to pick which setup you would want most. For top speed, a smaller sprocket or larger counter-shaft sprocket will help with that. For quick acceleration, you would need a larger rear sprocket or smaller front.

09 750 race bike?
im making my 09 gsxr into a track bike. whats a good set up for the track?

If you're asking about the best gearing you'll need to ask someone with the same/similar bike who rides the same track. There are so many variables I couldn't answer that for you.

it depends on the track. find out what people are using at your local track and go from there. it is also going to depend on the bike and personal preference.

I want a bigger and bulkier look on my chain and sprocket,it says 525 on the chain but someone there told me to get the 525 .is it the 520 i need?
MotoSport Staff Expert
Over 3 years ago Location: Portland, OR
We really need to know what bike you have, but a larger, bulkier chain than a 525 would be a 530. 530 chain and sprockets may or may not fit on your bike because they will be thicker than the 525.

I have a Yamaha 2009 YZF-R6. I want more bottom and middle end so what kind of set-up should I get?
Expert MotoSport Staff
Over 3 years ago Location: Portland, OR
A larger sprocket in the back will increase your bottom end. It will take a little experimentation to get it dialed, you may want to start by increasing the back by 2 or 3 teeth.

I went with a -1 Front and +3 Rear. I got tremendous improvement on my low and mid. I would go with that. Anything more and it will be hard to keep the front wheel down. Also you will lose some off your top speed. I would also recommend installing a speedo healer. If not your speedometer will be off by 8-10 mph.

I am looking to stunt my bike out but still ride down the freeway I have a 03 zx 6r?
if i go down one tooth in front and up about 6 teeth in the back would this be to much

All depends on what your gearing is now and what results you're looking for. Generally with stunting your're going to want to go up quite a bit in the rear. If you're going to be riding 100% slow wheelies and what not, you may want to go a little more, but keep in mind you're top speed will be increased. Best bet is to buy a few front sprockets as well. Rule of thumb is that 1 tooth on the front sprocket is equal to about 4 or 5 on the rear.

You'll definitely be pushing your rpms a lot higher, you'll also want to get a speedo tuner so your speedometer will be accurate. http://www.motosport.com/motorcycle/search/?words=speedo%20tner

What do i order?
I have a 00 r1 how many teeth do i need on the rear sprocket for a guiker ride and how many links in the chain
MotoSport Staff
Over 3 years ago Location: P+RTLAND
If you want your bike to be a little quicker the best thing to do is see what size sprocket you have on now on the rear and go up a tooth or two. Doing this will take away a little bit of your top end speed but will add more bottom end pulling power. Another way to do it would be to go down a tooth on the front sprocket. This will have the same effect.

So is the rear sproket black or the chain?
Expert MotoSport Staff
Over 4 years ago Location: Tualatin
These sprockets will be black in this kit and your chain will have different color options. Those options would include gold, gold/black, and silver.

The rear sprocket is black. You can choose a black chain in the options if you prefer that color.

Will this kit fit my bike?
I have a 2000 ZX-6R. I see it is not listed on the bikes this kit fits. However, the 2000 ZX-6, ZX-7R and ZX-9R are on the list. What is the difference for my bike, or will it still fit?
Expert MotoSport Staff

no it will not. if your bike is not listed it will not fit.

What chain conversion kit do I order?
I have an '07 GSX-R600. I want to do a -1 / +2 conversion for more low end power. What are the stock sizes of my sprockets? And what kit do I order to accomplish this?
MotoSport Staff Expert
Your bike came stock with a 16-tooth front sprocket and a 43-tooth rear sprocket. If you have any gearing questions with respect to trying to gain quicker accelleration or more top speed, I'd recommend just giving us a call so that we can better help you out over the phone....this is all really just a matter of personal preference, bike setup and riding style.
