The Moose Ozark Rear Rack Bag is not designed or recommended as a back rest. IT is designed to strap to the rack however with some modifications you may be able to utilize the Polaris Lock and ride wing nut fastners.
There's a plastic molded rack with raised tubes on the back of my machine. Would the Ubolts connect to the rack correctly? thanks in advance

This Rear Rack bag is really designed to connect to round tube style rear racks. You may be able to install this on your 1998 Polaris Sportsman 500, but it may take a bit of custom mounting for installation.

These bags use a u-bolt mount to attach to tubular style racks. You may be be able to modify the mounts and the rack to get it it to fit, but it is not designed to fit the style of rack that Can-Am models use.
