It's a matter of survival. In an unforgiving maze of gravel strewn corners and malevolent steel a rider needs protection, vision and comfort. The call to arms has been answered. Introducing the Icon Variant helmet.

Variant Helmet Details:

  • All world standard, meets or exceeds the following: DOT FMVSS 218 (US), ECE 22-05 (Europe), SAI AS1698 (Australia), and SG (Japan) safety and testing standards. (Note: Does not ship with SAI or SG certification stickers unless purchased in that country.)
  • Fiberglass / Dyneema / Carbon fiber shell.
  • Long oval headform.
  • Wind tunnel tested and refined.
  • Anti-lift visor to reduce glare.
  • Multiple oversized intake and exhaust ports.
  • Molded EPS nose reduces shield fogging.
  • Quick-change Fog-Free shield.
  • Rear spoiler for reduced helmet buffeting.
  • Removable chin curtain.
  • Four 10 mm front intake vents.
  • 36 mm rear exhaust vents.
  • Notes: Includes one clear shield; tinted shield sold separately.

The wind tunnel refined shell, executed in a Fiberglass / Dyneema / Carbon matrix, forms a solid first line of defense. Internally, a dual-density EPS core provides critical Energy Management, greatly reducing impact forces transmitted to the head.

Of course safety is best affected by avoiding the crash altogether. To this end the Variant features a reshaped eyeport which provides enhanced peripheral vision. The Variant's unique visor system also contributes to improved vision. When properly designed, such as on the Variant, the visor can help block bright sunlight while producing minimal lift characteristics. Couple this with Icon's Fog-Free coating and it is obvious why the vision aspects of the Variant are superior.

Another important method of increasing safety is by reducing rider fatigue. Excessive heat buildup can result in both discomfort and distraction. Neither a good situation. The Variant's extensive venting system works at all speeds providing necessary airflow to the helmet interior. The airflow works in conjunction with the wicking Hydrady liner to effectively reduce heat buildup.

Icon Hi-Viz Salvo Helmet Large

I have been wearing this helmet in the Hi-Viz color for about two years now, mostly commuting on my f800gs. The look of the helmet is super cool. It has a very futuristic MX feel. I wanted a lid that didn't make me look lame out on the road. Overall, seeing as I have been able to wear it for two years, it is a decent helmet, although I find myself feeling like it is now the most uncomfortable piece of gear I wear and am looking for a different brand. My biggest complaints are the weight, discomfort on my ears and the fact there is no room to velcro speakers in for my SMH-10R intercom. It's not a bad helmet. But here is my take on it. Pros: Hi-Viz color is easy to spot. Helmet looks cool. Decent quality. Nothing has broken or caused problems Liner is easy to remove and clean Buffetting at speed is not too bad Cons: Heavy - I notice it on my head Noisy and unsealed (especially when glancing over) Hear pockets are shallow (can't use speakers) Not the most comfortable (on my ears). Neutral: I have not removed the shield yet Nor the visor so can't report on that

Great Helmet

Pros:Great look, hydra-dry liner is very functional The only negative I have found with the helmet is over the shoulder checks at 60+ MPH the visor can create an exaggerated drag. I also purchased the RST Gold lens to go with the helmet and it is great for day and night riding.

Much Better Than Expected

This helmet performed much better than i expected it to. I bought it figuring that the shape and visor would really catch the wind when riding and that it would be a pretty noisy helmet. This helmet does great at high speeds and feels just as stable as my Bell Star Carbon. It is a bit quieter too. There is plenty of airflow on hot days and i haven't had any fogging issues on cold mornings. The liner is super comfy and very easy to take out. The shield is easy to swap to but takes about 5 minutes.

Awesome Helmet

I love this helmet! Fits nice and snug just like it should. I ordered a Large (I have a Large Fox V2 and V3 for dirt biking) and figured it should be in the same ball park sizing as my motocross helmets, which it was. The flat/rubberized black looks great with the Fire/Iridium shield. I would strongly recommend this helmet!

Solid Dual Sport Helmet for the Money

I use this helmet on my supermoto and dual sport. At highway speeds there is a lot of wind drag. The visor isn't the easiest to swap out which can be less than ideal when going out for rides at night or in inclement weather. The visor works well to block sun when it's in your eyes. Very well constructed helmet, haven't had any issues with it yet. I would usually wear a Medium helmet however I first got the medium and had to return it for a large as I couldn't even get my head into the helmet. I'd recommend ordering 1 size up or try to find a store that has them and trying out which size works best for you.

I found my favorite helmet

I first ordered the orange version of this helmet thinking it would go with my repsol CBR but it didn't go well so I returned it (no problems at all) and got the matte black rubberized version. It fits like a charm and the venting is great on hot days - beats all my other helmets by far and so worth the money. Just a note on sizing, it was snug the day I got it but broke it in within a week or so and now fits great. Medium = about a 7 3/8 sized fitted hat.

Completely Disappointing!

Bought a Variant and a silver mirrored shield. Replacement shield doesn't fit right and one of the inner vent covers completely fell out of the helmet before I even had a chance to wear it on my bike. $415 for two pieces of garbage! If you're gonna spend that much for a helmet and shield, it had better be higher quality. Be warned! I expected more from Icon.

Exterior Cleaning (Rubatone Matte Helmets) 1. Lay a warm, wet cloth towel on the exterior of the helmet for at least 5 minutes to soften dried on bugs. 2. Remove the now softened bugs and road grime with a light bloting acton. For this use the soft part of your helmet bag provided or a clean microfiber cloth. MEASURING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Measure your head size. To do this, pass a tape measure horizontally around your head at a height of about one inch above your eye- brows. When done properly, you will have measured the largest part of your head.

2. Check your measurement with the helmet sizing chart and select the closest size. As the helmet may not always meet your head size exactly, and your head measurement may fall between two sizes, first try the smaller size.

WHEN YOU RECEIVE YOUR HELMET

1. Expand the helmet opening by pulling outwards on each chinstrap, and slide your head into the helmet. If you are unfamiliar with helmets you may be reluctant to pull the helmet down, as it may feel too tight. Even if the helmet is difficult to put on, please use the smallest helmet possible. The helmet should feel snug. If the helmet is not tight, it is too big for you. New helmets will break in and loosen slightly over time.

2. Once the helmet is on:

  • Check that the helmet inner lining fits snugly all around your head.
  • Check that the top pad presses on the top of your head.
  • Check that the cheek pads press up against your cheeks. When you open and close your mouth, you should drag your teeth along the inside of your cheeks.
  • Check to make sure that you cannot easily slide your finger into the helmet along the side of your temple.
  • Hold the helmet with one hand on each side. Without moving your head, try to move the helmet up and down, and side to side. You should feel the skin of your head and face being pulled as you try to move the helmet. If you can move the helmet around easily, it is too big. Try a smaller size. Please note that during this check, the chinstraps should be properly fastened.
