Sizing way out

I'm only submitting this review because the sizing is way out. I'd read mixed reviews regarding sizing and I went ahead and ordered my normal size 9, which came up way small.

I am a size 9 in normal shoes 95% of the time. Occasionally size 9 is a little bit too roomy for me and I get 8.5. I would say these come up as an 8. They are a good inch and a half shorter than my Tech 10 size 9's.

See photo how the instinct boot compares to tech 10 size 9.

These boots are beyond great

I bought these thinking I messed up and bought 500 dollar boots but these are great but my calfs are to small to be able to strap the top latch but other than that I have no complaints at all definitely would buy again

Great Boots

I'm not a racer, more of a trail rider. Overall the boot has held up very well over about a years worth of trail riding. I grip the bike with my knees a lot which cause my feet to spread out more so there is some parts of the sole that are tearing, but nothing that I've noticed during riding. The boots come with extra clips and buckles but fortunitely haven't had to replace any of them yet. Out of the box they are very comfortable and hardly any break in time. I wear a 10.5 shoe so I got a size 11 boot and there's a little room in the toe, but it doesn't affect shifting or braking. I can't vouch for how easily they clean because I ride in red clay so all of my gear is stained red for the most part. I went back and forth between the tech 10's and these and I'm glad that I went with these.

Best boots I have worn in a long time!

Very comfortable out of the box. Very little break in time. As close to a pair of running shoes as you can get out of an MX boot. I can easily wear these boots all day in the pits and be comfortable, unlike a few other boots that become intolerable to walk around in after a while and they still provide EXCELLENT protection.

Fox Instinct

Boots are very light and have an excellent contact surface on the inner part of the boot. It's flat and very grippy which makes it easier to squeeze the bike. The toe box is short and easy to get under the shifter.

Awesome looking boot out of the box, but unfortunately I had to return them.
Wear a size 14 in street shoes, Tech 7, and Tech 10. These ran true to size from the ankle down to the toes. The feel was excellent. My issue was from the ankle up.
The top strap wouldn't go short enough to fully tighten the boot. Had to run the 2nd strap loose for the top strap to even close. My TLD braces end at the top of the boot, which doesn't help.
Bottom line, I would have loved to try them out but they where just to loose on my leg. If you have an average calf with knee braces that go into the top of your boot you'll be fine. Guys with smaller calfs and or longer legs may want to try before you buy.

Excellent product!

If to someone would be helpful - my work boots size is 10. I had Sidi boots for over ten years: also great boots, but it was always tight on me (size 10), but 11 was too big, now it is total... I was afraid to buy the Sidi again, so I decided to try these FOX INSTINCT size 10 and it is absolutely perfect and comfortable form the first time I've put it on. Don't know about durability yet, but looks like really quality boots. Would recommend these boots to everyone.

Good boot but didn't last more than one season

Great boots at first, very comfortable and protective. At the beginning of this season I noticed substantial separation between the sole and the boot. I called fox to see what they could do. Customer service was scatterd at best, herd several different answers from different employees. The straightest answer I could get was it would take at least two to three weeks plus shipping time. After my third phone call I got a shipping label from the company (4 business days later). The riding season around here is short and 3+ weeks is substantial portion of the season. This was not the answer I was looking for. I spent more money on these boots because I expect them to last or at least be promptly backed up by the company. Customer service told me that my boot damage may be considered regular wear and tear and there for not covered under warranty. I asked to speak with a boot designer to get a better definition of "wear and tear" got no response when I was told I would get a prompt response. After to manny phone calls and to much waiting I decided it wasn't worth losing riding time because I didn't have faith fox would make it right. Turned me off of the brand as a whole. Just decided to buy new boots of a different brand to keep riding. Not worth the extra money because they don't last and fox won't back them up.

I'll have another pair

These Moto boots are pretty gnarly looking and not to mention very comfortable... The other thing that stood out to me was these boots give the rider more stability and grip on the bike, I am very pleased with my purchase

Worlds ahead of other boots.

Amazing right out of the box. Very close fit, and light. Feel like you are riding in shoes, they fit so close. Have a few long rides in them and havent had much a problem with hurting my feet. A few wrecks in too and these boots feel good and sturdy, especially with the heel lock. Inspires a lot of confidence in them. The styling and the colors are phenomenal. I bought the Aqua, and red ones, (which arent available here) but they look great, and i can only imagine the other color combos look just as good. the only thing could be possibly taken away from this boot, is the bottoms get a little slick in the mud, but thats only a minor thing. Very highly recommend these boots.

Fox Instinct Red Boots

This past fall I purchased my first pair of Instincts and let me say I will never go back to another brand again! I wear a size 10.5 in shoes and went with the size 11 for my boots. The fit was perfect! Not too sloppy but not to tight. The control I feel from these boots goes beyond what I can say. I really enjoy the slim toe box and easy in and out of the boots. I have ridden Alpinestars, Sidi, and Thor...while those are all top of the line brands, the Instincts take the crown when it comes to all around comfort and performance. If you want style, comfort, performance, and durability, then these boots are certainly the way to go! All in all, a great boot. Yes, a little pricey but so worth the $ if you are looking for a top of the line piece of necessary equipment!!

So Good

Replaced a set of tech 7s with these new instincts, best decision ever. If your hesitating because of the price, Put your ankles first. super comfortable, easy to get in and out of and much cheaper that surgery. no problems with shifting or sizing

Great Boot

My previous 2013 instinct boots ran a little small and needed break in. Fox really stepped it up with these. The boot runs true to size and feels great right out of the box! They also complete my Marz LE look very well. Makes my gear pop! I really trust these boots. I sustained a blown up ankle two years ago and went with the instinct because of the hinge. I've wadded up my bike several times since and these boots provided excellent protection. I won't buy any other brand.

Corrected sizes

I wear a 10.5 US shoe pretty consistently. The instincts size 11 fit perfectly. Very comfortable. I'd say if you wear a size 11 shoe then go with a size 12 in these boots. As far as performance they feel just like the previous versions (maybe a little lighter/slightly less bulk). A very secure boot giving lots a confidence.

Nice fitting boots, but sizes still run small

Upgraded to the fix instinct boots for the 2015 season, and am very happy with the fit and boot quality. However, the sizing still tins small. After trying a size twelve and finding that I could barely get my foot in the boot, I mapped the fox sizing to international shoe sizes and had to go to a fox size 14. So seems fox still has some work to do on their sizing.

A: The Fox boots do run on the small size. Usually up one size from your normal shoe size.

A: The 2015 instinct runs true to size. I ordered the same size I would wear in an athletic shoe and they fit perfect.

Q: Comp 8 or instincts?
2 years 6 months ago
I recently had ankle surgery and look for a boot that doesn't twist as easy. I'm looking to get the fox comp 8 or instincts. Does the instincts have more support with it having a hinge? Thanks.
MotoSportExpert

A: The Instincts will offer the best support in the ankle area because of the 4th hinge/strap. The other FOX boots, Comp 8 and Comp 5 only have 3 straps and this makes the ankle area fit not as snug. FOX just recently tested this very thing with a FOX rider who has ankle issues. The rider with the bad ankle rode in Comp 8 boots, but because of his injury, he felt the boot didn’t support his ankle enough. He then rode in the Instinct boot and said there was a WORLD of DIFFERENCE with ankle support.

A: You sound like me. After my ankle surgery I went with the instinct because of the hinge. The hinge provides protection from rolling your ankle as well as hyper extension of your foot. My advice, pay the extra for the instinct.

Q: Do these provide good toe protection for trail/offroad riding? and are they better than the new Sidi crossfire SRS for trail/offroad?

A: The Fox Instinct is a MX boot. You may want to consider a more specific designed enduro boot.
Blake

A: This boot provides excellent protection for MX riding. If your concerned about branches and other debris hurting from impact; it will provide as much protection as any other boot. If you hit an object at a high rate of speed it won't matter what you're wearing.
