Great Find!

I was looking for a nice heat shield to compliment my FMF powerbomb so I wouldn't have to deal with melted pants. The only real competition was the moose carbon one which maybe I would have went with since it seems more protective, but since I didn't have $100 to spend the FMF heat shield was a great find and I love the way it looks. It doesn't stick out that much if at all and it complements the bike well.

Exhaust Shield

It's not to fancy and doesn't stick out to much it is pretty tight and flush finish I don't believe it will be hooking on any of the gear in the trails and on the track.

Save your money

Let me start with I installed the stainless steel version on my 2005 CRF450R after purchasing the Power Bomb Header. The first fall on the right side of the bike on a dirt trail, the hose clamps break off and the the guard is lying on the ground, the mounts are flattened out and destroyed beyond repair. The icing on the cake, no protection offered to the header, in fact the mounts caused puncture like damage to the header. I have not tried to contact customer service yet, but for the combined money spent on header and shield, I am not really satisfied at this point. My stock header and guard lasted almost 8 years, this one is damaged within one week.

Extra Protection...Always GOOD!!

I got this for my powerbomb header. I wasn't getting burn from the header, but it doesn't hurt to have more protection. When the ride gets bumpy I want to know that I'm safe from rubbing up against the extremely hot header. Not to mention, the "FMF" stamped cover looks AWESOME!!! I also custom painted the cover Flat black to match my flat black engine, so only the header and exhuast is chromed out.

Motosport needs to say only fits on power bomb

Dont purchase if you have the megabomb installed on your bike it will only fit on the power bomb, other than that good design and looks cool.

Excellent addition

Bought this shield a couple months ago and am very happy with it.

Easy installation (added it to a full FMF system with powerbomb) and am very happy with the extra protection it gives me.

It gets plenty warm, but not nearly as hot as the header pipe get!

installed on my YFZ

No more burn holes

I race a 2011 KTM 450 SX-F, and I was constantly burning holes in my gear. The leather patches on a few different brands of pants I had didn't offer the correct placement for me. The FMF heat shield fixed the problem. I had to drill the holes closer together to fit on the resonance chamber of the stock header, but since then, not a problem AT ALL. I got the titanium version and heated it with a torch to "blue" it to match my header. It has stayed in place after racing with it all season long, even after crashes. It looks like it's supposed to be there. I'll post a picture later.

Must Have

I will not ride without a heat shield. Easy to install, good amount of coverage, and looks good.

VA Beach

Waste of money but does the job. Just don't touch the pipe.

Heat shield

i have an after market header on a crf 450 that is big. it has burned my pants and hands and boots alot. this heat shield is awesome. never gets hot to the touch and pants and hands don't get burned. looks good and was a great buy. would recommend to all who have aftermarket header.

Great heat shield

As always FMF makes a great product. This is no exception! Fit great on my FMF power bomb and looks good too! I was a little worried at first how the hose style clamps would hold up but I've had this on my CRF 450R for almost 2 seasons now and no problems whatsoever! I used to be constantly burning holes in my pants but ever since I have installed this heat shield I haven't even had a melted spot! Great product and for the price you cant beat it!

Works great on my MRD Racing CRF450R header

This fits my CRF450R pipe perfect. I run a Stainless Steel MRD header, but it is a copy of the OEM Ti header.
I find it is plenty of coverage to save my pants from burns, and that was my main concern.
Also a clamped on shield can move in a fall and not get crushed like a shield on welded mounts.

Good heat shield

Shields heat away from leg ok. A longer option would be great as to it only covers a small section of pipe.

Q: 2008 CRF250R?
2 years 9 months ago
I have the mega bomb header for my CRF250R its not the actual expansion part of the pipe that burns me its the part where the pipe sticks the furthest out from the engine, will the shield fit right there? Because the bomb part doesn't burn me its the straight pipe that stick further out. Will it fit right there?

A: Im not certain whether the shield will fit in the location you are describing on your 250R and cant really picture where exactly you are trying to place it. It seems like you may be describing a straight section under your radiator that is different than on my bike. Attached is a photo of the shield mounted on my 450X power bomb header. This may provide you some reference as to how big it is and whether it will fit. Some further reference would be that the screw holes on the shield are 5.25 inches apart from center to center (where the clamps mount to the pipe) and the overall shield is 7 inches long. Hope that helps.

Q: This looks like it will fit a stock header since it is all flat. Will this work on a FMF Megabomb Header since it is FMF make?
i have a 2014 KX250F and i bought a 4.1 RCT with the titanium megabomb. i put on the system and rode it in my alley once and i realized the right leg to my sweats were burned off after that. it gets super hot, super fast. i dont want to ruin my gear, will this fit a Megabomb header? if not, what will?

A: Unfortunately this will not work with the Mega Bomb header. It is too small and will not fit properly. Currently there is not a readily available pipe guard that will fit the Mega Bomb header for your 2014 KX250F. I am sure something can be modified to fit but currently nothing will be a direct bolt on for this application.

Q: Will the FMF heat shield mount to a stock header and replace a dinged up stock heat shield?
MotoSport Staff
Over 3 years ago Location: Portland, OR, USA
A: This would clamp to a stock header no problem, but it will not use the stock mounts and the stock mounts may need to be cut off for clearance.

Q: Will it replace a heat shield of a Outlander 400 Max XT 2006?
Hi i have a BRP Outlander 400 Max XT 2006 and the braket of the muffler has broken off but muffler is still good so the original metal shield is off.
MotoSport Staff

A: This is designed to go around a head pipe and not a muffler so most likely it's not going to work for you.
