This kit is designed for people who want to adjust the timing on their Hot Cams Camshaft.

If you have all the necessary tools to install a new cam and get the specs correct I would say it's not needed but if you don't have any of the tools this kit will definitely come in handy.

The only reason you would need this is if you want to adjust your cam timing a few degrees advanced or retarted for better power where you might need it (more top end or midrange) this is mostly for serious racers that need to get absolutly everything out of there motor and know what they are doing.

In speaking to hot cams and checking out their website, if you get stage 2 or above cams you will more than likely need the installation kit to properly degree your timing. The more high performance parts you install the more important degeeing the cams becomes. Keep in mind that this is a very technical process best done by a skilled mechanic. And always double check it when your done. If you have stage 1 or oem cams the timing will be close enough out of the box being that the gear is pressed on and easily adjustable.

Dont hotcams have timing marks on the camgears to use for timing?

yes most cam s do have timing marks. they are only as accurate as production tolerances will allow and generally are fine for stock motors . Mod motors require much more precise cam timing what engine builders refer to as degreeing your cam s for max performance. Variances in cam marks , flywheel marks, cam chains , cam variations etc could result in a motor being several degrees out of actual time . To correct your slightly out of time cam will require an adjustable cam chain sprocket. if one is available . this also allow s alternate tuning .

YES.
ALL BIKES HAVE MARKS ON THE GEARS AND TWO OR THREE BOLTS HOLD THE GEAR ON TO THE CAM. SO THE CAM IS INDEXED BY THE BOLTS. THE ONLY ONE THAT I KNOW THAT DOESN'T IS YZF250 AND YZF450. THEY HAVE TO BE INDEXED AND THEN PRESSED ON. SO NO MARKS ON THE CAM JUST THE GEAR. IF YOU ARE BUYING FOR A YAMAHA BUY WITH NEW GEARS INSTALL BUY CAM MANUFACTURE. UNLESS YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND THE PRINCIPLES HOW TO DEGREE A CAM IN AND HAVE TOOLS TO DO IT.

That is correct, the Honda's do not include an adjustable timing gear.
