Leatt 5.5 Body Vest Leatt 5.5 Body Vest KX100WeekendWarrior - Yakima, WA, USA 4 out of 5 stars Not a good choice for small riders. "I am 5' 2" and 130 pounds. I realize I am just below the 5' 3" cutoff, so it's not surprising that this vest was huge on me. I was hoping I could make it work, but it is just too big. The kidney belt sat only a few inches above my crotch when standing, and rode up when I sat on my bike. It's easy to tell Leatt is catering to the masses here, but I would have liked to see Leatt break up the sizes a bit better. I wouldn't recommend the small/medium to anyone shorter than 5' 5". Additionally, while the vest looks very low profile and slim, it is rather bulky. I do have a very small frame, so the bulk would probably not be as noticeable to someone 5' 8" or taller. As mentioned before, the kidney belt was only a few inches above my crotch, so the vest added about 3-4 inches to my waist (take this into account when buying, you may need new pants if you fall in the lower end of the sizing spectrum) and I couldn't put my arms at my sides. The quality of this vest appears to be pretty high. The stitches are seem well placed and if the vest had fit better, it probably would have been very comfortable. The only concern I have is how hot it was. Just wearing it around the house, and then walking outside (95F) to sit on my bike had me sweating quite a bit. I did have a shirt on underneath, but that should be irrelevant. It seems awfully warm, but does make use of a seemingly well designed venting system. Once wet with sweat, airflow and evaporation should keep you fairly cool. The vest does seem to be well designed and thanks to the bulk offers a lot of protection. Much more than the chest protectors I have used in the past. Chest, back, kidneys, and ribs were well protected. I didn't get to ride with it, but it seems like I would be able to hit the ground really, really hard and have a solid chance of walking away without breaking ribs or vertebrae (as long as we aren't talking spinal compression), bruising kidneys, etc. If you haven't experienced those injuries yet, you should consider buying this vest before you do. Getting hurt sucks. Overall it seems like a well designed product. The pros are that the vest offers sufficient protection and seems to be very well constructed. The cons are the lack of sizing options, making the vest a poor fit for smaller riders. If the vest rides low, you may need new pants, and it may even have a tendency to ride up (this is merely speculation). It seems a bit hot, but this may change once you are sweating and the ventilation system is doing its job."
