Product Description

Important note: This piston is for a stock sized bore. Please measure your cylinder to check clearance before ordering.

As the OE supplier of two-stroke pistons to KTM, Vertex pistons have an outstanding reputation for quality and performance. Each gravity-cast piston is created with only premium aluminum alloys utilizing an 12 - 21% silicon content.

The silicon content in Vertex pistons is crucial to the quality of the piston. Silicon is critical in decreasing thermal expansion which, when an engine reaches normal operating temperatures, can change the geometry of the piston. Controlling this expansion means that a Vertex piston can be run at tighter tolerances for more power, less noise and maintain a longer lifespan for the piston. Additionally, the silicon content decreases wear on the piston skirt which also aids in the longevity of the piston.

In addition to the silicon, each Vertex piston utilizes a unique Molybdenum Disulphide (MOS2) coating which aids in the break-in process and reduces overall wear.

  • Bore diameter: 46.9 mm (Standard).
  • With the purchase of a premium quality piston, every Vertex piston kit contains a complete set of nitride-coated or chrome-plated piston rings, a fully case-hardened wrist pin and circlips - all at a competitive price.

KTM's - careful of piston type!
This ended up being a type 1(type A) piston, which is the stock piston from the factory and is slightly smaller in diamater than a type 2(type B) piston. All replacement pistons should be type 2, since the larger piston will fit in a broken-in cylinder better, unless you've just had your piston replated. It didn't damage anything, but I ended up having poor compression because of the slack fit of the smaller piston. Replaced it with an OEM type 2 and noticed a difference immediatey.

Top Notch Pistons
I've been using Vertex pistons for over 10 years and after installing 20+ I've never had a single failure. Change your piston on a regular basis, based on the riders ability, and you won't have any problems either.

Best piston out there.
Cost was just right and the wear time for these pistons are awesome! I can see why KTM use them in all their bikes. 2001 CR125R

Very good product.
installed in a ktm 200mxc. works great, but when ordering be sure to check that its the standard bore or slight overbore for a worn cylinder. i needed the larger piston, but if you were to get a larger piston by accident you will have problems. the piston works like a piston should. no complaints. will buy over a weisco any day

Good Deal
Looks just like OEM (vertex makes KTM pistons). This is the 4th piston I have put in this bike, went in and runs like OEM. Saved a little $$.

I suggest doing both top ends at the same time to start off fresh. Replacing one piston and not the other will cost you more time and money in the long run.
