is this the bracket that holds the caliper?or an extension added to the existing front caliper baracket?

It's an extension for the caliper so it can accommodate a larger rotor. So it bolts onto the existing bracket.

The bracket actually replaces the stock bracket entirely. You remove the caliper/bracket assembly from the fork leg. Then remove the mounting bracket from the caliper and replace it with the bracket from the kit. You might have to remove one slider pin from the stock bracket and reinstall it in the new one. Its a very simple install.
