Awesome
WR250F came all stopped up. I opened up the airbox and exhaust and then used the JD Jet kit to tune the carb. I used the recommended settings based on my application and now my bike screams. It is surprising what a difference this has made in power and response.

JD Jet Kit, 2012 CRF 250X
Just installed this on a new CRF 250X after break in fluid changes. Instructions are simple and detailed enough to get through the procedure in a couple of hours. Take the time to do the Closed Course Competition Airbox mod while you're at it- this is also explained in the directions and really complemented the fueling the new jets provides. If you are using the stock air filter, remove the restrictive metal screen while it's out as well. My bike was completely stock when I installed this kit so the hangups I experienced were related to emissions equipment. Go ahead and lift the rear subframe and drop the rear shock. It will save you the headache of figuring it out later since it's not in the directions. The kit can be installed while the carb is in the bike if you disconnect everything and have good dexterity it's much easier out of the bike. Use the recommended settings in the instructions for setting the fuel screw and selecting your main jet for altitude and existing mods. I changed out the pilot jet and used the 160 main jet along with the low altitude needle as recommended for near sea level altitude and intake modifications. The bike instantly idled better and was willing to do so with less choke on warm up. It will sound healthier and your exhaust smell will sweeten up with the right mix of hydrocarbons. Throttle response is outstanding compared to stock and getting the front wheel up is much easier, especially in second gear which really helps on trail obstacles or favorite hooligan launching sites. Recommend this kit to anyone who wants to take the guess work out of making a custom set up and may change their settings again later. Definitely the way to go to fix the lean factory jetting options on the make and model I installed it on. Thanks to Motorsport for quick shipping so I could try it out over the weekend!

There's the power!
After performing the CCC Airbox mod and installing the JD Jet kit with a Stock 450R exhaust on my '08 450x it was night and day! The JD Jet kit offers many options for varying conditions and the ability to dial in my bike was awesome. Followed the easy instructions and used their recommended setup. My bike starts first kick (or click) every time and the power is great. Highly recommend.

No difference for me
Honestly, I don't think my bike runs any better than it did before I installed the kit. Installation was pretty strait forward. In fairness I haven't played with the needle settings so there's probably more to be gained. I would say that adding an adjustable fuel screw did far more for driveability than this jet kit. If you live in a place with constantly changing climates (florida in the winter) the R&D fuel screw is a MUST!

Not impressed
The JD jet kit in my opinion is not a practical product to purchase. I initially bought this kit to fix my bike from popping so much. Upon installing this kit, it took 2 hours to install witht the carb still on the bike, if I could do it again i would definitley take the carb off. The installation is pretty easy, but getting to the sections where you replace the jets and needle was very tedious. After installation, my bike did not pop a single time, however, when about 2 days passed, the popping returned and was worse than ever before. The bike has noticeably more power but not enough to get excited about. Basically I spent 75 dollars on a kit that has done nothing but waste my time.

After market pipe back fires?
My bike is an '03 450. It has a nasty bog and it backfires when I let off the gas. No one can give me a straight answer as how to fix this. Which jet and what sizes should i try to fix this?
MotoSport Staff Expert
the backfire on deceleration is probably from an exhaust leak where the header mounts to the motor. some times playing with the fuel mix screw can help decel popping as well. as for the BOG I would recommend a JD jet kit. there are lots of other after market do dads for the fcr carb you can purchase too. alot of them work but I find that dialing in your jetting is best. as far as what jets to use, stick with a jet kit and follow the directions. save yourself the frustration!

Can i do this?
Can i put this on the stock carb of a 1998 CR 125? It doesn't show it as fitting the bike here but it does on the jd website so i know it goes on. so can i put it on the stock carb?
Yes, it is for the stock carb.

I bought a kit for my 05 RM250, and it did not come with a 52, only a 45. And I am sorry but I do not know of where to get a 52.

They do not come with Pilot jets.

Does it have the size i need?
Does this have either a size 168, 169, or 170 main jet included? If it doesn't where can i get them?
If you purchase this kit for your model bike it will have all the jets you need. Do not try and second guess the kit, what it calls for will be the right jets and needle! Install per instructions for best results.

I know it comes with a 170 for sure. Not a 169, and I'm thinking it didn't have a 168 either.

What comes in this?
Do all the jets needed to put on the carb come in this? Do instructions on how to do it come in it? I've never done this before so i need the instructions.

Yep this kit comes with everything. All the jets, needles, and very detailed and easy to follow instructions.

I need to do some jet work on my bike and wanted to know if you have to have new jets or if you just have to move the old ones around?
The JD jet kit comes with everything you need.
Top 1000 Contributor

Jets are all different sizes, so you would need to have new jets, not just move around old ones. You can move the needle clip though.

How Will...?
How will your spark plug tell you if you need to rejet your bike after a ride with the new exhaust
MotoSport Staff
Over 3 years ago Location: P+RTLAND
Depending on how the air fuel mixture is, it will leave a residue on the electrode of the plug. If your plug is: Grey to Light Golden-Brown in color your good. If it's white or melted then your too lean. If it's covered in black soot then your too rich. If you've never jetted a bike before, I would recommend having a mechanic walk you through it.
Zacky Over 3 years ago
What are.?
What are the plugs on the carb? In a question he said to check your plug after a ride with my new exhaust and it should tell you if you need to rejet. What and where is it located
MotoSport Staff Expert
Over 3 years ago Location: USA
the plug is referred to as the Spark Plug. this is typically located on/near the top of the motor, or whats referred to as the, Top End. A suggestion to you is to obtain a service manual before you work on the bike. it will save you a head ache and/or even a ton of money.

Is This Required?
I have an FMF Power Core 4 on my 04 CRF 250R and was wondering if you need a new jet kit or if you just have to rearrange the old jets. Thanks!
MotoSport Staff
Over 3 years ago Location: P+RTLAND
With a slip on normally you dont need to really do any jetting, but it's highly recommended. Check the plug after you ride with the exhaust on and if any jetting needs to be done, your plug should tell you.

How easy?
How hard would it be to put this on a CRF 250R (2004) I've never done this before so i need to know if it's something i could do
Over 3 years ago
it's simple . drop the carb , unbolt the bowl and drop that ( 4 bolts ) turn the carb upside down and wullah...there are the jets . use a skinny standard screw driver , unscrew the old jets , and re-install the new jets. no gaskets needed as the bowl has an o-ring. I believe elevation and wether or not you have an after market pipe will affect the outcome of your bikes performance though.
