Makes the YZ450 more user friendly

This was a great addition for me. I ride a combination from tight trails to MX tracks and the YZ450 does not like to go slow and this flywheel makes huge difference in the low speed tight trail manners of this machine while not hurting the free reeving nature of the motor on the track. I no longer need to really feather the clutch and stalling at low speed is a non issue. Takes all of about 10 to 15 minutes to install with a flywheel puller. Tilt the bike to the right so that you don't have to drain or replace oil and in 10 minutes you are done. There are two different weighted flywheels the one I chose was approx 4oz and there is another one at approx 9oz. The 4oz gives you decent trail manners without sacrificing on the track. After having tried the 4oz flywheel I would go with the 9oz if I were strictly a trail rider. I would imagine it would make the bike a bulldozer in the trails.

Q: Which flywheel weight would suit me better?
1 year 11 months ago
I ride a good mix of trails, desert and moto. I only ride moto for fun/practice and do not race. I do race desert and enduro. I want something to smooth the power out and make tight trails a little easier, but do not want to bog the bike down too much as I like the big hit of power. My question is whether the +9oz flywheel is going to be too much weight for my riding. Of course my other option is the +4.8 oz flywheel, but I want to make sure I get a noticeable difference for my money.

A: The 4.8oz unit will be more for MX use. On a 450 motorcycle, you may not even notice that weight. It will make the rear tire hookup better and eliminate the wheel spin. Which can make the bike seem faster since the tire is hooking up better. The 9oz unit would be better suited for what you are looking for.
