2014 KX85 - FMF SST pipe and shorty silencer

This combo performed exactly as stated, it gave a clean crisp throttle response, and excellent pull through the mid and into the top. This thing pulls so much better through the mid range that it has transformed our starts. If we aren't getting the hole shot, we are fighting for it. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the pipe is too thin, gets dents very easy. Ours didn't make it through one weekend of racing before denting up. I don't believe we have lost any performance from the dents, but just saying.

Great product

Put this on my yz 125, very easy to install. Run better and I can feel the difference in power. This is a great product and I highly recommend it. The shipping wasn't that great though. The box was all torn up and took two weeks.

FMF exhaust combo

I havent really had a chance to really see what this new exhaust is capable of. I installed it along with a Trailtech lightweight flywheel on my 2006 KTM 300 XC-W and for the 5 minute ride i took the bike seemed much snappier and layed down rubber through the end of second gear.

Simply the best

Perfect! wish they were impervious to damage on my second set!

I have used this pipe on three of my bikes and the outcome is always the same. Really woke up my new yz250, a lot more pull up top.

Stock to This

This pipe does everything it claims to do. Huge increase in power and not to mention it looks extremely b/a. I have a walk around vid on youtube for the stock pipe and then after i put on this one

Decent buy

The combo works great together and it gives you that little extra kick that stock doesnt give you. Its not a huge power boost but you can for sure tell out on the track. It pulls and pulls, sounds great, looks great, and holds up pretty well. It didnt take long at all to put on. The chrome header is awesome and stays shiny with a little WD40 every once in a while.

Sounds good BUT

I think FMF did apoor job on sealing the pipe to the cilynder. We replace the O rings every other ride. I called FMF and they would not give me a solution to the problem. As a father keeping 85's going for the next day racing they could have been more helpful, other than o well keep tearing down and replacing.

stillwater OK

this pipe combo helped out my 05kx125 alot it has better bottom mid and top so you can get on the power and it turns that 2 stroke crazy powerband into controld great useable power.... well worth the money going 2 have alot of good riding with this exaust

I put the pipe with the shorty silencer on my kx 85. The bike got on the power faster. It didn't make much difference over stock but it still pulled me fast enough to win some bigger races.

It was easy to install, I only had to make minor adjustments to the mounting spots for the pipe. I felt faster acceleration, More pull/Power in all gears. I felt an overall increase in power and like everybody says, The SST really wakes up your bike from the stock pipe and makes the bike look a lot better because of the chrome finish. So in conclusion, it gives your bike an overall power increase and gives your bike some really nice looks. I would recommend to anyone!

SST setup RULES!!!

I went from stock, to the fatty pipe/stock silencer, then to the SST/Power core II shorty silencer combo and noticed a significant increase in the SST setup over the others!! FREAKIN' RULES!!! great power through all the power band! Excellent increase top, midrange, and bottom end!

Lots of Power

I added this combo to my bike a 2003 yz 125 and it ripps now. This combo added a lot of snap to the bottom end, helped the midrange a little, and added a lot of power to the topend. Also the bike sings off a lot higher of RPM then befor with the stock pipe and scilencer.

We got this pipe and silencer combo for my little brothers KX100. Totally rips, this bike now HAULS! Almost as fun as my CRF250R. I scare myself on this bike, in a good way. A little loud for the neighbors though. Otherwise, cant go wrong with this combo!

I just installed a SST pipe kit on my 06RM 250, it gave me excellent power throughout the whole powerband.I recommend this pipe for anyone who needs that extra pop.

Awesome power

Lokks good and really wakes up any two stroke out there

Awesome pipe

This pipe offers great power characteristics. I opted for the shorty silencer and it produced a very linear power band with alot of over rev and also added power down low. i highly recommend this one

Q: Is this good for a 2016 yz125?
Im looking for the best pipes overall for my yz125. If this wouldn't be the best parts overall then what would be? Also looking for more bottom end.

A: Yes this FMF SST Pipe & Powercore 2 Silencer Combo Fits your 2016 Yamaha YZ125. Just be sure to correctly select the Year/Make/Model of your bike before ordering so we can be sure to send you the correct combo for your bike. The shorty silencer would be best for bottom end. Also, feel free to give us a call at 888-676-8853 and we would be happy to help you out with your order.

A: The FMF SST Pipe is not made for your 1996 Yamaha YZ125. I would recommend taking a look at the FMF Fatty Pipe for your bike.
Q: Difference?
Is there difference between shorty and powercore 2? do i need change jets or something else in engine and does this pipe fit perfectly in my honda cr 125, 2001?
MotoSport Staff
Over 3 years ago Location: Portland, OR, USA
A: The difference between the Powercore 2 and the Shorty will be power output. The Powercore 2 will provide better top end power and the Shorty will increase bottom end power. The jetting will be dependent upon your location and elevation you ride at. Modifications to the jetting will also depend on what the bike is currently jetted at. You can contact FMF Racing directly and they can provide jetting specs for your location and modifications done to the bike. You can also purchase a jet kit that will have the jets required and a jetting guide to help you set it up correctly.
Q: What combo would be best for hill climbing? (usually 3rd gear and up)?
Usually pretty high speed (3rd gear and above)
MotoSport Staff
Over 3 years ago Location: Portland, OR, USA
A: There is many different things to consider when asking a question like this (such as gearing). The shorty silencer will give you much better bottom end from the engine but you will lose a little bit of top speed as it will fall flat a little quicker. The Powercore 2 will be more beneficial if you are typically in higher gears with wide open type riding.
Q: Will i need to re jet my bike?
I have a 2009 YZ250. Will i need to get a different jetting kit for it or is the way it is good for the SST combo? and should i go with the shorty or the powercore?
MotoSport Staff
Over 6 years ago Location: P+RTLAND
A: You should check your jetting after installing an exhaust system. Most likely you will have to rejet.

If you do more tight track riding than trails go with the shorty, if you like to do a mixture of both go with the powercore.

Q: Which is the best end pipe for the sst pipe?
I ride a 2007 Honda Cr85 is the powercore 2 silencer or the powercore 2 shorty better with the sst pipe?
Expert MotoSport Staff
Over 6 years ago Location: USA
A: If most of your riding is at a track I'd recommend the shorty, but if you ride elsewhere go with the standard powercore2 silencer.
Over 6 years ago Location: ST ANTHONY
A: The shorty pipe is for bottom end and the normal power core is for topend. I ride the dunes and desert and fmf recommended the sst and the shorty.

Q: Combo for kx85. do i need to jet? also running fast track, which silencer is for me?
MotoSport Staff
Over 7 years ago Location: P+RTLAND
A: Yes, you will need a jet kit and your best bet would be running the standard silencer. It's a little more broad as far as power goes instead of focusing on the bottom end like the shorty does. Your call in the end, both will be about the same as far as performance goes.
Q: Will i need to jet before i put it on?

will i need to jet before i put it on or can i run it with the pipe and then jet it
