FMF Gnarly 2-Stroke Pipe

Product Description

The FMF Gnarly pipe focuses on increasing the lower RPM horsepower and torque to get you out of the toughest terrain. When looking to add 4-stroke tractor like torque to your 2-stroke and you need a pipe to withstand the harsh elements, this is the pipe for you.

  • All pipes are electro-nickel plated for a non-chip finish that will not discolor.
  • Nickel plating is an FMF trademark and has been 'copied' by everyone, making it the most imitated expansion chamber in the world.
  • Gnarly gives maximum low-end boost.
  • Super-strong 18-gauge steel construction makes it GNARLY!
  • Note: Pipe may include factory indentations for proper installation clearance.

Torque - Testosterone's bigger, meaner brother

After eyeballing this pipe for a few weeks, I finally HAD to buy it after my KTM factory one got pancaked between a boulder and the frame (actually WAS an accident). This pipe is the perfect addition to woods riders that need more low end torque to get over a log, up a rock garden, up narrow slick singletrack hillclimbs etc. The power difference is well worth the price. Durability is there too, but I haven't had a direct hit on this one. Installation on my 2004 200EXC was not what I had in mind.....pipe hit the kickstarter, so I had to move the lever one notch up, and now the starter lever rubs the bottom of my tank, but not bad. Would buy again!

FMF Gnarly for KTM 300XC

Installation was easy, definitely solid construction. I'm pretty sure I won't bang this one up as easily as I did the stocker. The pipe really does move the torque down low, which is what I was looking for in the abundance of tight and slippery woods where I do a great deal of riding. With the green spring installed on the power valve, the bike pulls like a tractor. It doesn't seem as if it gives up much at higher rpm, but there aren't really too many places where extended, wide open running happens where I ride most of the time..

Awesome Pipe!!!! Must have for woods riding!!!

I put this pipe on y 1990 CR250 and it looks amazing, This pipe took away the lag of the power band on my bike and gave all the throttle response I could ever want. First through third gear are tough to keep the front tire on the ground. This pipe makes a 2 stroke have the low end grunt of a 4 stroke. I noticed a small decrease in the top end power but who needs top end on a 2 stroke any way just grab another gear! This pipe will make your bike feel like a completely different bike.

Works well for MX and trails

This pipe makes my bike explode out of the corners! I had my doubts for MX, since it lacks top end, but I could carry a gear higher through the corner and be in the meat of the powerband with little clutch work. Strong bottom end, lots of mid range power. Once you start getting into real high rpms, just find another gear. Makes my yz250 feel very torquey and smooth.

Chamber ads a little grunt

I wouldn't say that the change will blow your mind, but after some back-to-back rides on a 98 KX250, I can say that there is a difference. Ads a touch of low end to an already famously low-ended bike. Softens the "hit" a bit, but by no means removes power. Some people may be faster with this pipe depending on riding styles. A great addition for woods riders.

Best Pipe Ever

I love this pipe I would recommend it to anybody it does what it says it does. It didn't hurt my jetting on my KTM which is even better. I have also rode with it in rocky sections and it hasn't dented.

I have a 07 300xcw. Will I have to change the jets with the gnarly pipe?
Expert MotoSport Staff
1 month 1 day ago Location: Portland, OR, USA
If your bike is currently jetted properly for your location (altitude/temperature) you should only need to make minor changes if any at all. You should be safe to install the pipe on the bike and see how it runs, then make any adjustments from there if necessary.

You might have to change the jet. It will come with a jet chart.

Sorry no it will not fit a gas gas.

FMF does not make the Gnarly Pipe for your '06 Gas Gas EC250. According to FMF's website there is a Powercore 2 that they have available but unfortunately we do not stock parts for Gas Gas Motorcycles. Here is a link to the FMF silencers for your Gas Gas on FMF's website: http://www.fmfracing.com/Products/BikeAsList/2006_GASGAS_250

My Gnarly pipe has rust showing, can I get it replated?
Shows mostly in the tighter section that meets up with the exhaust manifold.

Does the moose carbon fiber pipe guard fit this pipe?

Moose does make the Carbon fiber pipe guard to fit FMF Gnarly pipe depending on what bike the Pipe/Pipe Guard is for.

Does the Gnarly take off top end power? And Gnarly vs. ProCircuit Platinum?
I mostly ride woods trails and I am looking for a pipe for my 1990 CR250 and I have heard that a Gnarly pipe reduces top end power? I have a 140z flywheel weight on my bike already and was also wondering about the Pro Circuit Platinum as an option? Which would be a better pipe?

The GNARLY and The ProCircuit both have very good top end power you cant go wrong picking either pipe. I use the GNARLY on a KX250 and the Procircuit on a YZ125. I truly like them both.

Will this fit ?
hello , you have been highly recommended to me via a work mate! i have a 2009 KTM exc 250 , i can't see the exc 250 on your web page will the xc model be the same for this FMF pipe
MotoSport Staff
Over 5 months ago Location: Portland, OR, USA
Yes, the pipe from the XC or SX models will fit. The 2004-2010 KTM 250 models all share the same pipe.

Any chance of the actual photo of the 1985 cr 500 pipe?
MotoSport Staff
Over 7 months ago Location: Portland, OR, USA
Unfortunately we do not have a photo of the specific pipe for your 1985 CR500. It will look very similar to the stock pipe but it will be nickel coated like the photo that is shown.

Which would you recommend more the SST or the Gnarly for mmotocros?
MotoSport Staff
Over 10 months ago Location: Portland, OR, USA
The SST pipe is going to be a rev pipe. If you find that you ride the upper end of the RPM range more then go with it. If you tend to lug the bike and short shift, then the Gnarly is going to be the one you will want to go with. This is more of how you ride your bike, and what will work best for you specifically, rather than what is right or wrong for MX.

Will this pipe fit the Australian model RMX250 ???
MotoSport Staff
1 year 1 month ago Location: Portland, OR, USA
All of the parts we sell are intended for US Models. Checking with your local Suzuki dealer will give you an idea if both models share the same OEM exhaust. If this is the case, then our Gnarly Pipe will work great and fit just fine.
