Helmet Criteria?
I am buying one helmet, just 1....I do not care what it cost, but I want it to be the best. I will be using it as the primary helmet for a series of long-distance on-off road ventures that go to all 50 states. Some treks are over 10,000 miles long and will last weeks.
Priority-1 = Safety.
Priority-2 = Full face helmet
Priority-3 = Soft casing vice Rigid shell
Lower priorities:
Wide vision - Weight - Long time on bike/day - Camera mount - Comfort.
Can you offer suggestions and explanations why you suggest them. More is better than less.
Thank You.

As for the dual sport helmets you now have a quite a few options. Just so you are aware, all of the helmets that have Snell or ECE rating meet a strict criteria that categorizes helmets as a safe helmet . Typically when you get into the more expensive helmets you are paying for comfort features rather than safety features to an extent. I typically recommend a helmet that does not use a Polycarbonate shell and instead recommend shells made up of fiberglass or fiberglass/composite. They tend to distribute the pressure over a wider surface in the event the helmet does come in contact with an object or the ground. Other features of the higher end helmets may help with how much time you are spending on the bike such as quieter venting systems and shell shapes to reduce wind noise. Typically the more expensive helmets also use titanium hardware and lighter materials such as carbon fiber to help keep helmet weight down which helps prevent fatigue. When it comes to interiors, again there is nothing wrong with the ones on less expensive helmets, and most helmets now come with removable interiors, but the material of liners and the foam which is used can be of much higher quality which translates into a more comfortable and longer lasting helmet. If you really want the top of the line helmets, look at the Shoei Hornet DS or the Arai XD4. Both are top notch helmets and the ones that i would put my head in personally if i were looking at dual sport helmets. These 2 companies have track records that speak for themselves regarding the quality of their helmets. They are regarded as some of the best fitting and best engineered helmets in the world. I would try each of them on, as each persons head shape is different, and go with whichever of these 2 cater best to your head shape.
