D.I.D 520 ERT2 Gold Chain - 120 Links:

The D.I.D ERT2 chain is the most trusted chain in Supercross and motocross racing because of its reputation of meeting the high quality demands that are required when pushing the limits. It was designed with the intention of making a chain that is optimized for the purpose of racing. D.I.D beefed up the ERT2 chain by increasing the pin size by 3% to give the chain an average tensile strength of 8,100 pounds. Increasing the strength of the ERT2 chain did not come with a sacrifice of weight, in fact DID was able to shed 5% from the previous ERT chain.

D.I.D 520 ERV3 X-Ring Chain - 120 Links:

The D.I.D ERV3 X-ring chain is the ultimate high-performance, lightweight, low-friction race chain available and is used extensively by many off-road race teams. The ERV3 X-ring chain utilizes D.I.D's patented X-ring technology which reduces friction by 50% over standard O-ring chains for minimized power loss. The pins on the ERV3 X-ring chain have been put through a patented heat-treatment process to produce a pin that is 1.5 times harder than conventional pins. The result is a chain that is significantly stronger and offers better wear resistance than many other chains on the market. D.I.D ERV3 X-ring chains feature a gold-plated finish that resists rust and adds a little style to your motorcycle or ATV.

Renthal 520 R1 Gold Race Chain - 120 Links:

Renthal's R1 Works Chain is a high-strength non O-ring chain with excellent impact load resistance designed specifically to withstand the stress found in off-road applications. This chain is the choice where a combination of high strength, light weight and maximum power transfer are important considerations.

  • Shot-peened alloy steel side plates for high tensile strength and maximum impact load resistance.
  • Chamfered inner links to reduce the chance of chain derailment.
  • Extended bushings to reduce friction between outer and inner link plates, maximizing power output.
  • Chromized bearing pins for excellent resistance to wear.
  • Gold color side plates help prevent corrosion.
  • Most perfectly matched chain for Renthal sprockets allowing maximum power at the rear wheel. This also extends the life of both the chain and sprockets.
  • Average tensile strength of 7,644 pounds.
  • Wear life index: 300.
  • Maximum displacement (street / off-road): N/A / 500cc.
  • Weight (per 100 links): 2.13 pounds.
  • Each chain includes master link and a pair of latex gloves for mess free installation.
  • 120 links.
  • Note: Non-sealed chains require more regular maintenance than sealed (O-ring, X-ring) versions and are mainly recommended for off-road use.

Renthal 520 R3 O-Ring Chain - 120 Links:

Renthal's R3-2 O-ring Chain is a high-strength sealed-ring chain with excellent impact load resistance designed specifically to withstand the stress found in off-road applications where an O-ring chain is desired. This chain is the choice where a combination of high strength, light weight and maximum power transfer are important considerations. The O-rings help extend chain life by retaining the special vacuum-injected grease near the critical pin area. Chain comes pre-stretched to shorten break-in period.

  • Nitrile O-rings extend chain life by retaining special vacuum-injected grease inside the chain joint.
  • Shot-peened alloy steel side plates for high tensile strength and maximum impact load resistance.
  • High-carbon alloy steel bearing pins for excellent resistance to wear.
  • Gold colored side plates help prevent corrosion.
  • Pre-stretched to enhance performance of the chain.
  • Available in 520 pitch only.
  • Average tensile strength of 7,644 pounds.
  • Wear life index: 750.
  • Maximum displacement (street / off-road): N/A / 500cc.
  • Weight (per 100 links): 3.36 pounds.
  • Each chain includes a pair of latex gloves for mess free installation.
  • 120 links.
  • Note: The Renthal R3-2 chain is supplied with both an easy-fit split master link and a superior solid-pin rivet master link which matches the durability of the chain.

Note for installing X-ring chains: As X-ring chains are wider than standard roller chains, when fitting an X-ring chain to a motorcycle that was fitted with a non O-ring chain as original equipment, it is essential to check that there is proper clearance of the engine cases near the countershaft sprocket and any other places of close contact. Failure to do so could result in damage to the chain and motorcycle and could ultimately cause the chain to fail.

Note: Image is for reference ONLY, actual product will vary based on fitment and selection.

Replace the entire drivetrain!
Experience has taught me over the years of technical singletrack riding that I either need to replace the chain LOTS more often than I do ... or I need to replace the chain, countershaft sprocket and rear sprocket at the same time. I get a ton of life out of these complete refit kits and price isn't too bad for a a nice looking and performing setup.

Chain-Sprocket Combo?
I have a 96 CR250, and I am getting into XC and GP type racing. What would be the best sprocket sizes and chain be?
MotoSport Staff Expert
Over 3 years ago Location: USA
Without knowing exactly what you're looking for as far as power output. meaning are you looking for more top end/bottom end than the bike currently has. there's really not a specific tooth combination for XC/GP racing. it is more of a rider preference.

I want different sprockets cause I race motocross could I run a 51t and 52t on the same chain using a 13t on the front?
Top 250 Contributor
Over 3 years ago Location: NC
Yes you can. Just be sure you have enough adjustment in your chain to go from one to another. Your rear tire will be moved up with the 52 and moved back with 51.

Countershaft sprocket spacer?
Do any of the DID chains require the front sprocket to be spaced out a little so the chain doesn't rub the case?
MotoSport Staff Expert
Over 3 years ago Location: Portland, OR
I know of the older Honda CRF450R had rubbing issues when running an oring chain. I would suggest contacting the manufacture of yourbike you to see if an oring chain will rub or not.

If i want my bike to pull better out of corners what sproket combination should i buy?
Expert MotoSport Staff
Over 4 years ago Location: Portland, OR
To gain more acceleration you would want to increase the rear sprocket teeth, or reduce the front sprocket teeth. To gain the best combination I would start with changing the rear sprocket. Figure out how many teeth you currently have and either go with one or two teeth bigger. One tooth makes a slight difference but two teeth make a considerable difference. If you have any questions contact our Sales Staff for more information.

Which chain?
what chain should i get with a 2004 450r.i ride motocross, mude and loose dirt
Expert MotoSport Staff
I've always ran a non-oring chain when riding MX. I do notice that if I ride more trails or woods type riding my chain get really beat up. The O-ring chain will stay protected from the elements but you end up with more weight on the drive train. So depending on how often you ride the woods vs. the track is which chain you should purchase.

What is an x-ring chain?
MotoSport Staff Expert
Is a X-Ring Type chain better than a “standard type” O-ring chain??? Much, much better because it’s seals are flat sided, which means the seals have a much greater “contact patch” with the Side Plates. Since the seals are flat, it allows for multiple “sealing lips”......each one acting like a separate seal. As one “Lip” starts to leak the lubrication the 2nd lip seals it in....& because X-Rings are flat shaped on the top & bottom too, this doesn't allow any room for dust & grit to get lodged between the seals. A vast improvement over “standard type” outdated O-rings!!!! What all this means is, that X-ring type seals have less than half the friction of a O-ring type because the seals don’t have to be pressed as tight, so the seals last much longer & the lubrication stays in the chain much longer too... which means your chain can last almost twice as long.. (up to 30,000 miles)!!!!!!

I have a 93 Honda CR250, how much play is in the chain?
MotoSport Staff
Over 4 years ago Location: Portland, OR
Up at the front of your swing arm where the rub plate is you should be able to put 3 fingers between the chain and the swing arm rub plate. You don't want the chain to be super tight or this could cause the chain the snap.
