Product Description

Renthal's R1 Works Chain is a high-strength non O-ring chain with excellent impact load resistance designed specifically to withstand the stress found in off-road applications. This chain is the choice where a combination of high strength, light weight and maximum power transfer are important considerations.

  • Shot-peened alloy steel side plates for high tensile strength and maximum impact load resistance.
  • Chamfered inner links to reduce the chance of chain derailment.
  • Extended bushings to reduce friction between outer and inner link plates, maximizing power output.
  • Chromized bearing pins for excellent resistance to wear.
  • Gold color side plates help prevent corrosion.
  • Most perfectly matched chain for Renthal sprockets allowing maximum power at the rear wheel. This also extends the life of both the chain and sprockets.
  • Average tensile strength of 7,644 pounds.
  • Wear life index: 300.
  • Maximum displacement (street / off-road): N/A / 500cc.
  • Weight (per 100 links): 2.13 pounds.
  • Each chain includes master link and a pair of latex gloves for mess free installation.
  • 120 links.
  • Note: Non-sealed chains require more regular maintenance than sealed (O-ring, X-ring) versions and are mainly recommended for off-road use.

Quality Chain
My last 4 or 5 chains have been DID ERT2 on Renthal sprockets. They lasted quite well. This time I figured I'd try the R1 Race Chain just to try something different. It looks heavier duty. I had to re-adjust it after the first ride and just a bit after the second but it has now setteled in. I can't see any reason why I wouldn't buy this setup again.

Nice chain.
Good quality chain, been on for quite a while now, wearing well, especially for a non-o-ring chain. Looks nice too, really like the gold!

How many links?
I have a 08 crf250r how many links does the chain have on my bike?
MotoSport Staff
2 years 11 months ago Location: P+RTLAND
It really depends on the gearing you are running. The stock length should be 114 links, but you may have to count the links if you've changed your gearing any to get a solid answer.

the chain you're buying has 120, and that will fit your bike. if your sing arm is too short its easy to take off a couple links.

Since its corrosion resistance, does this mean it can never rust?

This chain can rust if not lubricated. This is a steel chain, not an O-ring chain. These chains will stretch, they are lighter than an O-ring but will not last as long as an O-ring chain. If you are racing at a pro level the steel chain is a good choice if you race for fun and like to ride, get the O-ring

I can give you a definitive answer but I believe resistant mean exactly that, it resists rust. As long as you keep some sort of lubrication oil on the chain you should never get more than minimal surface rust.

Tuner sporcket kit?
i just bought a new sprocket kit and my front sporocet is a 12t and the rear is a 54t. the kit came with a chain, the chain is a renthal R1 420 gold chain of 120 links, will this chain fit on the new sprocket, will i have to take out links or add any links.

you will most likely need to take out links but since I don't know what bike you are putting them on it's hard to tell you for sure.

if your using the same size sprockets that are already on your bike, just count the links in your old chain and use the same amount for your new one. if your old sprockets have different amounts of teeth than your new ones, you may need to cut it down, or get a bigger chain.

Is renthal reliable?
my friend told me renthal sucks i no thats true with bars and sprokets when your just trail riding but are their chains any good?
MotoSport Staff
Over 3 years ago Location: P+RTLAND
Personally I've always had good luck with all my Renthal products. It's all about finding what works best for the type of riding you are doing. Since they make their sprockets out of aluminum and the R1 chain you are looking at is a motocross/supercross style chain, it's probably not going to be the best set up for heavy trail riding or dune riding. You may want to look into a chain more suitable for trails.

I was brought up to pick good friends who dont lie to me. And it appears that is exactly what your friend is doing to YOU!!! Renthal is a great brand for everything they make. shoot i even use their brake pads. the truth is that when you buy something that says Renthal on it, it IS going to be very high quality and very durable. Sprockets, bars, brake pads, and yes even chains. you name it, you cant go wrong with Renthal. Good Luck!

If my stock chain is 92 links, am i okay getting 120 links and taking some out. I am increasing the rear sprocket from 40 to 41 teeth on my 2002 rapt?
MotoSport Staff
Over 4 years ago Location: Por+land
Yes, all of our chains are cut to fit so breaking off a couple links will be ok.

I get that its non o ring?
but still why is it not suitable for Enduro racing.
MotoSport Staff Expert
well there's no reason why you could use it for any type of riding. It's a durability issue, and when you are riding in all types of conditions from wet to dry you'll be replacing a non-oring chain very often.

Why is the R1 chain not suitable for enduro racing?
Expert MotoSport Staff
It's a non-o-ring chain that is why.

the best enduro chains have O-ring to help keep the water and mud out the chain this one its a light version for motocross its have all the performance but u will have a better chain for enduro with o-rings this will work but its the best app
