The MX71 is the newest intermediate-to-hard tire in Dunlop's line of off-road tires. We tested it in the wide 90/100-21 size on our 2011 Kawasaki KX450F, and 2011 KTM 350SX-F.
-Excellent traction in intermediate-to-hard conditions. -Very good traction in softer conditions, even though the MX71 is not designed for such use. -Long wearing. -Wider footprint of 90/100-21 size adds some plushness to the front end, and makes for superior flat-corner traction.
-Wider footprint of 90/100-21 size is a little tougher to keep in ruts than the standard 80/100-21 size. -Under heavy braking on hard terrain, tire can skid unexpectedly.
We've actually been riding with the Dunlop MX71 for several months now, even though it just made its production debut in September. The now defunct 739FA front was our favorite front tire for years, but it's been replaced by the new MX71, both in our hearts and on store tire racks. The MX71 has excellent feel, with good, predictable traction in a wide range of track conditions. Best of all, it really seems to last.
