Bought this silencer for my 03 kx250 and it didn't do too much for power but it sounds great. Nice and quiet. Well worth the money in my opinion.

A few flaws
so i bought this for my rm85 and i like it.. but ,, the thing i do not like is that when i put it on my 2003rm85 it is hit by the wheel when i land off a jump almost needing a thick washer to keep it away.. and another thing is that i might just be used to it now but it does not seem to cut down on noise very much
This silencer would do a great job of solving the sound issue you are having. It will be much quieter than that shorty you have. Changing over to this silencer may change the feel of the power your bike makes compared to running that shorty but it should not cause your bike to loose power really. That shorty silencer you have on your YZ85 now is specifically made to increase the bottom to mid-range power so that would be where you would notice the biggest difference in power. I would say this would be your best option to switch over to based on the sound issue mainly and you should still get great performance out of your bike as well.
If the bike is jetted correctly at this time, you shouldn't have to re-jet your YZ85 for this silencer. You can call FMF directly though, and find out what their recommended jetting is for your location. FMF can be reached at (310) 631-4363.
