Product Description

The MotoSport.com Sunstar Chain & Steel Sprocket Kit includes ONE Steel Countershaft (Front) Sprocket, ONE Steel Rear Sprocket, and your choice of ONE Premium 428 Drive Chain, each with the following features:

Sprockets / Chainwheels Included:

Sunstar is the largest O.E.M. supplier of sprockets and brake rotors in the world. In fact, your motorcycle probably came from the factory with a Sunstar sprocket. Need a reason to choose Sunstar? Every Sunstar product is imbued with superior quality, uses an exclusive heat-treatment and quenching process, is based on advanced research and design, and is sold at an added value price.

Sunstar Front Sprocket 428:

  • Manufactured from case-hardened chromoly steel for the ultimate in strength and durability.
  • "Parkerizing" surface treatment for rust and corrosion resistance.

Sunstar Steel Rear Sprocket 428:

  • Manufactured using only the highest quality 1045 high-carbon steel.
  • Exclusive heat treatment for added strength and wear resistance.
  • Most are zinc plated and have a baked-on durable paint process for corrosion resistance.
  • The strongest, longest lasting steel replacement sprocket available.

Your Choice of Drive Chain:

D.I.D 428 Standard Chain - 120 Links:

The D.I.D Standard Non-O-Ring Chain is designed for low horsepower, smaller displacement mopeds, scooters and vintage motorcycles.

  • For machines originally equipped with non-O-ring chains.
  • Solid rollers.
  • Shot-peened parts.
  • High cylindrical and roundness accuracy.
  • Exacting tolerances provide low friction.
  • Pre-stretched.
  • Special alloy steel with extended riveted bushing "anti-kink" design.
  • Highest quality non-O-ring chain in overall combined performance.
  • Average tensile strength of 4,480 pounds.
  • Wear life index: 100.
  • Includes clip-style master link.
  • 120 links.
  • Note: Non-sealed chains require more regular maintenance than sealed (O-ring, X-ring) versions and are mainly recommended for off-road use.

D.I.D 428 NZ Gold Chain - 120 or 136 Links:

Pinning your bike out of every turn might tear apart the stock chain, but D.I.D and their 428NZ chain will not let you, or your race for first, down.

  • For machines originally equipped with non-O-ring chains.
  • Solid rollers.
  • Shot-peened parts.
  • High cylindrical and roundness accuracy.
  • Exacting tolerances provide low friction.
  • SDH pin treatment - hard chromium-carbide layer formed on pin surface for exceptional strength and wear resistance.
  • Pre-stretched.
  • Special alloy steel with extended riveted bushing "anti-kink" design.
  • Highest quality non-O-ring chain in overall combined performance.
  • Up to 19% higher tensile strength; average tensile strength of 5,740 pounds.
  • Wear life index: 410.
  • Weight (per 100 links): 2.20 pounds.
  • Includes a clip-style master link.
  • 120 or 136 links.
  • Note: Non-sealed chains require more regular maintenance than sealed (O-ring, X-ring) versions and are mainly recommended for off-road use.

Renthal 428 R1 Chain - 120 or 130 Links:

Renthal's R1 Works Chain is a high-strength non O-ring chain with excellent impact load resistance designed specifically to withstand the stress found in off-road applications. This chain is the choice where a combination of high strength, light weight and maximum power transfer are important considerations.

  • Shot-peened alloy steel side plates for high tensile strength and maximum impact load resistance.
  • Chamfered inner links to reduce the chance of chain derailment.
  • Extended bushings to reduce friction between outer and inner link plates, maximizing power output.
  • Chromized bearing pins for excellent resistance to wear.
  • Gold color side plates help prevent corrosion.
  • Most perfectly matched chain for Renthal sprockets allowing maximum power at the rear wheel. This also extends the life of both the chain and sprockets.
  • Average tensile strength of 4,609 pounds.
  • Maximum displacement (street / off-road): N/A / 150cc.
  • Each chain includes master link and a pair of latex gloves for mess free installation.
  • 120 or 130 links.
  • Note: Non-sealed chains require more regular maintenance than sealed (O-ring, X-ring) versions and are mainly recommended for off-road use.

Sunstar 428 MXR1 Works MX Racing Chain - 134 Links:

Sunstar's MXR1 Works MX / SX / Off-Road race chain (MXR = Motocross Xtreme Racing) is a premium quality, highly durable non-sealed chain specifically designed for Motocross, Supercross and/or off-road racing. Featuring Sunstar's oversized TripleStar treated ultra hard pins and 100% heat treated components, the MXR1 chain is constructed to handle the demands of the highest levels of racing. This is also one of the lightest MX chains on the market thanks to its superlight design - the 520MXR1 120 link version weighs less than 3.6 pounds, yet is super strong with an 8,970-pound tensile strength rating. Its combination of strength, durability and light weight make it the top choice for serious racers.

  • Deep gold side plates and gold inner plates.
  • Super strong and lightweight design for high performance / racing mini off-road and motocross machines.
  • Utilizes TST (TripleStar Treated) ultra-hard pins and 100% heat treated components for high strength and durability.
  • Seamless rollers and bushings help provide the added life and durability.
  • Average tensile strength of 5,780 pounds.
  • Maximum rated displacement (street / off-road): 250cc / 150cc.
  • Weight (per 100 links): 2.13 pounds.
  • Includes clip-style master link.
  • 134 links.
  • Note: Non-sealed chains require more regular maintenance than sealed (O-ring, X-ring) versions and are mainly recommended for off-road use.

Better quality than expected!!

So I bought this for my klx110 pit bike, I am 6' 1" and 180 lbs so the poor little klx takes quite a beating. I have hit the sprocket on rocks countless times and it just does not break! Highly recommend this to anyone doing a pit bike project!

Cheap, strong, and long lasting

I don't like (and can't afford) changing sprockets all the time, so i stick with steel sprockets. Sunstar can't be beat for quality for the price in my opinion. They always fit perfect. That they are OEM equipment should tell you something about their quality. They last MUCH longer than the aluminum, esp. on my kids bikes that don't the chain taken care of as much as it should.

How do I know which one to order?
I want to order the Sunstar Chain and Steel Sprocket Combo. I have a 2006 Yamaha TTR 125 LE with 16" back tire and a 19" front tire. I'm confused on which options I should order for these sizes of tires with the front and rear sprockets?. I also am confused about the chain. I know I want either the Renthal or the Sunstar chain, but not sure of the links. Can you help me get the right thing please?

according to the OEM part of this website the front sprocket should be a 13 tooth, the rear sprocket should be 49 tooth, and you need a 122 link chain. http://www.motosport.com/dirtbike/oem-parts/YAMAHA/2006/TTR125LE/REAR-WHEEL http://www.motosport.com/dirtbike/oem-parts/YAMAHA/2006/TTR125LE/TRANSMISSION

The original OEM gearing specs for your 2006 Yamaha TTR125LE would be a 13 tooth front sprocket and 49 tooth rear sprocket and would require 122 links in the chain. The larger front sprockets (14/15 tooth) options would give your bike more top speed but would take away from your bikes acceleration off the bottom. The larger 54 tooth option for the rear would give your bike more acceleration but less top speed overall. As far as the chain you would have to choose one of the 130, 134 or 136 link chains and remove the extra links before you put it on the bike, I would recommend getting a chain breaker tool for this job if you don't already have one. Be sure to remember if you change your sprocket sizes to larger sprockets the chain will need to be longer too, it is best to install the sprockets on the bike with the rear wheel adjusted most of the way forward, then lay the chain onto the sprockets to check the correct length.

The kit gives me a choice of chains.?
I am replacing the stock chain on my son's '05 Honda trx 90. Do I need to count the links on the old chain or will any of these work with the quad? I searched kits for the specific year and model of machine. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, any of the chains will work for your TRX90. I would recommend only purchasing them in in the 120 link length though, as any of them will need to be shortened. The chains are only sold in bulk lengths. Since your ATV will only require around 98 links depending on gearing, if you purchase the shorter chain you will waste less of it.

Does the sprockets fit a 2008 yamaha ttr 125?
MotoSport Staff
Over 9 months ago Location: Portland, OR, USA
Yes, we do have this available for your 2008 TTR125. Please make sure you profile your bike as these sprockets are model specific. You will also need to pick the gearing you would like to run. Just above where you can select the sprocket sizes, there is a box that lets you know what the stock sprockets were for your bike. The 2008 TT-R125 used 13 on the front and 49 on the rear.
