My steering seems like it has a flat spot when I turn it jams, would you think that the bearings are the issue? what's the difference with steer stem?
not sure if I need steering stem bearings or steering bearings?

1st. Check your cable routing, I have seen the throttle cable and clutch or even the break line catch on say a coil pack or a steering stopper block, front fender, ext...... 2nd if you have not greased the steering stem bearings with a good synthetic or water proof Greece ever, (most people don't ) then yes bearings and cups could be smoked. Take bars and Triple clamps off and check it out. Also I have seen replacement fenders hit the frame and give you a false bad baring feel. Good luck:)

All the answers from Rocko below are very good things to check. If the bars are sticking at full turn when they hit the steering stops, the stops might have worn a groove in your frame that they are hanging up on. Otherwise i would check your cable routing and if everything there looks good I would go ahead and install a new set of steering stem bearings. The easiest way to determine if you need the bearings for sure is to remove the front wheel and forks and turn the bars back and forth. If there is a lot of resistance present or a notchy feeling then you for sure need new bearings.
