Perfect Choice

I originally bought these tires (Desert IT) for theTexas National Enduro but it turned out we went to the Missouri National Hare Scramble. I decided to still run this tire combo. I think it was a great choice. The race course consisted of deep sand, sharp rocks, mud, ruts, hills, off camber, just about everything. It hooked up well everywhere except for some of the smooth rock that felt like I was on ice. I did practice ride for 2 days prior to the race and the tires held up well. The rear is pretty much destroyed now are the race but overall held up very well under the extreme conditions of the three days. I'm going to try the SI at home in Minnesota.

Maxis Tires

I purchased these tires for my sons Honda 450 r dirt bike. He said that they out preform the ones that come stock from the factory. He also has another set on his Honda 250 r. He is very pleased with them.

Solid Tire

I got this tire in place of my usual choice, the Dunlop MX51. I am pleased to say that this tire holds up much better than the MX51 so far and, in my opinion, provides just as much traction and handling. Time will tell, but I may have found my new favorite tire choice.

Seems to be a good tire for what I do

Replaced the stock rear tire on my wr450 with the Maxxis IT 100/110-18 and installed a Neutech Tubliss system as well. The pressure is at 5 lbs for a 150 lb trail rider ( not including gear) . While I am not a fast rider and I don't push the bike to its limits, I can say that the traction is good both climbing and cornering( again, while trail riding, not racing). I have only one ride on this tire so I can't comment on durability especially when 450's go through rear tires the way they do. I have not yet installed the front.

Makes my 2004 Honda CRF450R a rocket machine

Knowing how a set of tires makes the difference in both mountain biking and motocross/offroad, I researched tires for my CRF extensively before purchasing these Maxxis Desert IT's. I ride desert mixed terrain, sandy to rocky conditions and these tires perform very well, especially the rear tire, and after about 1,000 miles shows some wear, the lugs still intact! The rear tire has plenty of bite, and really makes this bike move! Very predicable. The front tire wonders a bit, trying to find purchase, kind of twitchy, but I find that if I ride a tad bit forward on the CRF, the front handles better. The old Dunlop I was running on the front wasn't so sensitive to my riding position. Awesome tire for mixed desert conditions, wears like iron!

Best Value

The Maxxis tires might not be the best tire but I do believe that they are the best bang for the buck. They hook up in all types of terrain and wear great. I buy them over and over again.

What compound tire will last the longest, for riding on the street? I prefer a knobby tire over a true dual purpose tire. I ride a 2001 Suzuki DRZ400s?

Any tire that is not designed as a DOT dual purpose tire is going to wear fairly quick in comparison. If you are set on a true knobby go with a hard terrain tire as they are designed to work on hardpack dirt and will last the longest. In the Maxxis brand, the best option would be SX series tires. Another good option would be the Dunlop 952's. Again all of these tires designed for off-road use will wear much quicker than a true dualsport tire.

Do the numbers next to the type make a difference?
