Best Value
The Maxxis tires might not be the best tire but I do believe that they are the best bang for the buck. They hook up in all types of terrain and wear great. I buy them over and over again.

Great for the price
These tires are great for the price. How do you go wrong? They mounted easily, have a very deep lug and great rim protection. Save your money on the high dollar brand names just 'cause someone is sponsored by them.

Nice surprise!
Having been a Bridgestone loyalist for years, and being unable to purchuse my normal 404/403 (out of stock) I gave maxxis a try. Wow.... What a surprise, tires were very reliable. Traction was superb, wear as of now is excellent. Do many harescrambles in Pa which can be very rocky and tires have held up great! Will consider purchasing again. (Tires on a 250xc)

What compound tire will last the longest, for riding on the street? I prefer a knobby tire over a true dual purpose tire. I ride a 2001 Suzuki DRZ400s?

Any tire that is not designed as a DOT dual purpose tire is going to wear fairly quick in comparison. If you are set on a true knobby go with a hard terrain tire as they are designed to work on hardpack dirt and will last the longest. In the Maxxis brand, the best option would be SX series tires. Another good option would be the Dunlop 952's. Again all of these tires designed for off-road use will wear much quicker than a true dualsport tire.

Do the numbers next to the type make a difference?
