Maxxis Maxxcross Desert IT Rear Tire - 110/100-18

Is there any other choice? I love this tire and run it all the time

2) 120/90-18's rears and (1) 80/100-21 front Desert IT's to finish 3rd in Class 50 at 2012 Baja 1000... Have run this combo since they came out and have never had tire failure... even at 90+ mph!!! Best wear and confidence building combo in our 20th Baja year... 549x

Installed a new set of the Maxxis Desert ITs for a 1000 mile trip in Baja. I wanted a tire that would last and had high hopes for this one, based on reviews. After 200 miles (max speeds around 60-65mph), I was missing two center lugs, torn off right down to the case. A third lug went shortly after. Had to finish the trip on a well-used Dunlop I was able to find in a small town, where I left the Maxxis rear (we did not have a support vehicle to carry it). Out of 5 riders on nearly identical KTM 525s and 450s, 3 were running Maxxis Desert IT or regular IT, and EVERY Maxxis rider ended up missing 3 or more lugs on the rear tires. The 2 riders on Bridgestone and Michelin had NO problems, and I had NO problems with my used Dunlop. I contacted Maxxis and they let me know the tire would need to be returned to the retailer to see if it would be covered under warranty. Obviously, I can’t accommodate that requirement, so I’m left to share my story with other riders, and hopefully keep them from a similar experience. Because the same problem happened on two different Maxxis models and three different tires , I will never buy another Maxxis tire. Photo is rear after 200 miles, missing 2 lugs. The front tire was fine.

Great tire for the price. They hold up well and hook up great. I have bought several of these and they work great every time.

Going back to this tire again. It's the only one I have had that I can take out and punish in the deserts of AZ. The rocks and hard trails don't seem to phase it unlike other tires I have had that loose tread with every trip.

this tire is by far the best one ive ran on my bike. all my riding is done in the desert and on really rocky terrain i wouldnt reccomend any other tire for rough conditions.
