I own this hauler. It is heavy gauge steel, but the square tube that goes into the receiver could be thicker (It looks a little thin) like some some of the hitch racks I have seen. I ditched the non-ratle mechinism because it is too much hassle when inserting it in the reciver and becaue there is no rattle problem becuse of the weight of the hitch with the bike. To the review who complained this would not work in a hitch with a converter, you better be glad it did not work because that hitch was not a class 3 hitch and was not rated for the weight of a bike. You need a class 3 hitch and a vehicle that will hold a class 3 hitch, not some car with a hitch.

This rack does not work with a hitch adapter. I have a 1 1/4" hitch on my Kia Soul so I had to buy a 1 1/4" to 2" adapter for this 2" hitch rack to fit which should have worked; however, the pin holes do not match so you have to modify the rack by cutting the end off. In my opinion, it's not worth the money. Either find a friend with a truck to cart your bike around or trade in the car for a truck.
