In the winter, the sweet pitch of braaaaap can slowly change to the teeth chattering sound of burrrrrr. A bad day of dirt bike riding is always better than your best day at work, right? But when it's cold to the point of pain and you can barely hold on to the grips - your office cubicle becomes a welcome shelter of solace.
Rain, snow and icy temperatures should not be reasons to garage your bike. Whatever you ride - 2-stroke or 4-stroke - your dirt bike is equipped for the cold and ready to roll. All you have to do is add some extra gear to your body and whatever Mother Nature can throw at you simply turns into a little more annoying roost.
Dirt Bike Riding in the Rain and Cold
Riding in the rain and cold presents a number of hazards that you need to be aware of. Cold, numb hands might be the least of your problems if you're not careful around all that slick mud. The usual suspects on the trail like tree roots, rocks and clay offer an exciting slip and slide that'll test the strongest of nerves. And, what looks like a small puddle might actually be more than you bargained for.
But, if you're prepared to get wet and muddy then your day on the motocross track or trail can last as long as a summer outing. To start, your usual riding and protection gear does not stay at home - wear it and add on top a layer of dirt bike rain gear. Plus you'll want a pair of goggles with a roll-off system and/or tear-offs or you won't get very far.
