Baja Designs Dual sport kit yz400f

I bought this kit to make my bike a dual sport, after install, i was told and found out that my stator and flywheel could not be used to run this kit, and i would have to change the wiring to make the CDI work as well. So after almost 650 dollars over and above the purchase price it finally works. If i had known all the extra cost i would need i would not have bought this kit. I wish i had seen that information before hand.

Q: Powered by battery only?
2 months 27 days ago
I am attempting to figure out a way to make a "relatively removable" dual sport kit for my 2002 kx125. I want to do this without doing a stator rewind/replacement. Can this device be ran purely off of a 12v battery? My thought is to charge a LiPo battery on a wall charger in between rides, thus eliminating the need for a stator job. Is this possible? What is the energy consumption of this device in watts? Voltage input rating (min-max)? Thanks!

Q: KLX 650R need kit, what can I do?
I have a KLX 650R that was registered street legal in Florida but the original owner took it apart and lost some of the components like the turn indicators and speedo. I am now trying to transfer the title and register this bike in California. I hope I have a better chance of this since it was previously registered street legal in Florida but I need a kit that will work or parts to make this work. Thanks, Jim

A: You will likely have to get a stator with higher output for lighting or have your OEM stator rewound to produce more lighting output. To have your stator rewound for higher output I would contact Ricky Stator (http://www.rickystator.com/). There would be wiring with the headlight that would need to be wired into the bikes existing wiring harness.

Does the stator have the strength to run these lights?

A: Since your 2011 KTM 150XC did not come with a lighting system originally In order for this kit to work properly on your KTM 150XC you may need to have your stator rewound or purchase an aftermarket stator with higher output for the lighting. I would contact Ricky Stator to have your stator rewound.

A: The Baja Designs EZ Mount Dual Sport Kit will mount on any dirt bike; it is a universal fitment. Your bike will have to have a lighting stator, regulator and battery to operate the headlight. You can check with companies such as TrailTech, Baja Designs or Steahly Offroad for electrical options.

A: This will get you pretty close to road worthy. All states require D.O.T. tires, some states have additional requirements such as speedometer / odometer, mirrors, etc. Please check state requirements there in Texas.

Q: I have a 95' XR250 do I need an updated stator?

It has a light on it already, probably not street legal...

A: Since your 1995 Honda XR250R came with lights you should have no issues with having this kit work for you. Getting a higher output aftermarket stator or having your OEM stator rewound would improve the lighting output on your bike though.
