Product Description

  • Barnett clutch kits are designed to tolerate whatever you can deliver with their top quality construction and components.
  • Barnett has been developing their burly clutch kits since 1948 for dirt bikes, street bikes, and ATVs.
  • The Barnett clutch kits are built with Kevlar fiber plates. Kevlar is the same material found in bullet proof vests, which make these clutch kits extremely tough.
  • Barnett clutch kits also include durable tempered steel friction plates that have been processed through their vibratory deburring followed by flatness testing to ensure optimum performance.
  • The heavy duty clutch springs have also been produced for durability by using shot-peened processing and heat treating.
  • Expect better clutch feel, performance and abuse control when you install the Barnett clutch kit in your application.
  • Note: not all street bike kits will include fiber plates, friction plates and heavy duty springs.

Barnett Clutch Kit
Very easy to install, and works great. I put this clutch through the ringer, during a marthon race through tight and rocky single track. I heated this clutch up, and it still preformed great. I have had the clutch in now for about 3 months, and it still works great.

I was going to buy an oem clutch kit, but I found the Barnett kit to be a better product for the money. As always, Motosport shipped it to me next day. Thanks Bryan Kirkland

Clutch
Barnett clutches are the way to go. Replaced tired clutch in a 250, work these over pretty hard on tight trails and hill climbs and they are always there, no fade, very durable. Great clutches.

Good Clutch
The clutch went in easily. The only issue I had was the springs were a little too stiff to get the clutch to slip at all which with a 2 stroke can be a problem. So far I would have no problems buying another one.

Who to trust?
I race and do ice racing in the winter here up north in canada, I am purchasing this barnett clutch but I have worries. i read all the reviews and there are a lot of awesome reviews from top contributers. But there are also a lot of bad reviews from guys saying it started slipping during second moto's or in a week and stuff like that. My guess is that they did not let it soak in oil. Is there an expert answer or does motosport use these clutches in their race teams? hmm... I'm going to give it a shot anyway

It really depends on who you ask. I've ran Barnett for years and have been happy with them. Like you said, some reviews are bad and i'm not saying they installed the clutch wrong or anything but there are so many different variations in riding styles, types of riding, oils people use, did they soak the plates etc etc so it's really hard to say that some of the problems people have had are due to quality or manufacturing issues. Just like any other product on the market, some like em', some dont.

I'm not an expert but i can tell you that these things suck,i would just buy oem or go with anything but barnett i put it in my raptor and couldn't even pull a brody on pavement,i put in another stock one and bam right there my tires were pretty much gone...i just recently put in an ebc and they are good too if i was you buy oem or ebc

Are the friction plates Kevlar or Carbon in this kit?
Best Answer
Over 3 years ago Location: mass
I am sure they are Kevlar. I have had it for 2 mos now. Nice grab off the perch. Make sure you soak the plates in oil for a half hr before you assemble

The plates are fiber.

Yes, the plates are kevlar as it say in the description "•The Barnett clutch kits are built with Kevlar fiber plates. Kevlar is the same material found in bullet proof vests, which make these clutch kits extremely tough."

Is it my clutch?
i have a 2000 yz250 that i think is fairly underpowered. i watch vids of these bikes and the front ends come up like crazy. well mine doesn't unless i pull all i am worth. it seems to run ok but just doesn't have a very good snap like i think these bikes should have. i have a new piston in it. is this my clutch?? if not please list all probable things that may be wrong. thanks a lot

Could be your clutch slipping, but its hard to say since the bike is not in front of me. Pull your clutch apart and check your disks and see what condition they are in.

it could either be that your clutch basket is slipping or need new springs. What this clutch kit will do is give a little more snap when giving it gas after switching gears or letting out the clutch.

What all do I need to replace a clutch on a 99 cbr600 f4?
MotoSport Staff
Over 3 years ago Location: Tualatin
It depends on what all needs to be replaced but it is usually the fiber plates, steel plates and springs which come in this kit.

If you have a hinson kit that can accommodate a stock OEM clutch kit, than this Barnett will fit.

What do I do?
I have an 03 CRF450R when i pull in the clutch to put my bike in gear, an tap my shift lever it clicks loudly when it gets in gear, then when i up shift i have to have the rpm's up high and nearly pull a muscle just to go up a gear, I've set my clutch lever, so i don't know what else it could be other than i need a new clutch. Am I right or wrong?

Sorry, you will need to contact your local service technician for advise.
Just adjust your cable, also change your oil if you have old oil it will cause these symptoms

When i pull in my clutch lever while the bike is in gear, it still moves foward, What all needs replaced in my bike?
The bike is started and in gear, the clutch is engaged, im still rollin'.
MotoSport Staff Expert
Over 3 years ago Location: Portland, OR
If you've inspected the cable and have it adjusted correctly than it's probably time for a new clutch. The best indication of a clutch going out is having it slip when you're riding it. At high revs the bike will feel like the clutch is engaged. With that said take you bike into your local service department and have the experts look into the problem.

I bought the barnett clutch for my stock 2000 cr 125 but it feels like it still needs a new clutch, why is that?
i noticed when i took off the old clutch that the fiber padding on the old ones were at the pretty much same level as the new barnett

You may have to take your bike into the shop to have them take a look at what may be causing the issue.

Try using a different oil in your transmission. Generally, use a 10w-30 or 10w-40 oil that says "MA" somewhere on the back of the bottle. Do not use an oil that says "energy conserving" anywhere on the bottle. The oil has to be specially formulated for a motorcycle clutch. Regular car oil will not work.
