After 1 year I have had to send them back 3 times. First the frame broke, second the strap on the patella cup broke, third the other strap broke along with the frame, I am not hard on the braces and have never crashed hard in them, only a few small tip-overs. the frame wears horribly. definitely not worth the money

Very disappointed. I've never written a review for anything before but after my experience with asterisk I feel compelled to warn others. The braces that cost me over $700 were definitely not worth it. The hinge on my left knee brace broke after 3 months of use so I sent it in under warranty to have it fixed. When I received them back they had replaced the broken hinge with one that wouldn't adjust which did me no good since the reason I bought the braces were to prohibit my knees from fully extending. I have been trying to contact asterisk about ordering a new hinge for over 3 months now leaving multiple emails and phone calls. I was just able to get ahold of them today and the very rude lady of the phone told me I had to send them in to get replaced for $85 plus shipping instead of them simply sending me a new hinge. All in all terrible braces and a terrible company. I urge anyone not to buy one of their braces Ill be trying my luck with a TCi brace this go around
I had an old pair and these have a better fit and the BOA is a greate addition. However, they are a little bit bulkier then the older version. It is harder to get my moto pants around them...
I use them for max 5 times in 12 months, at entry-entry level, only in dry locations.I have no time for riding anymore. ;(
I decided to sell them, and I observe the textile fabric that had to be Resistance to wear is disbanded badly in allmost every stitch point. :(((
The price was expensive (~ 850 $, buyet from Romania at 3.000 lei), but I not recomended because of very poor durability.
Have two pairs. Both broke.
I bought all three of the best knee braces, these, avs and the k700.
These have the strange pull tie that they migrated too. I liked my old asterisk braces and used them for almost ten years.
But, the mx k700 braces blow these away on form, fit and function. The asterisk braces make you feel like a robot, bulky and awkwardly tighten in strange places.
The k700 braces, are very light and slim; barely noticeable after a few minutes of use.
First off I pulled them out of the box , wow ,looks awesome, there are heavy then most, fit good even though I fit in between a sm & med , my left knee has no acl & mcl, pcl has been replaced. here the kicker , I took a nasty get off hit the deck so hard broke my finger, rolled my wrist , cracked my fox 3 helmet. these knee braces did there job for sure. I will say do not tighten your boots straps up. bottom line is this braces work amazing if you have not so good knees, thanks have a blessed day
i bought these in early june 2012 and they lasted until september 2nd 2012 right up until i tore my acl while wearing these braces. when this happend the braces were in horrible condition and i maintained these accordingly as the manual said to do. But after the first month i noticed they were getting in worse and worse condition until the incident happend. so as the title says if you get a new pair every month or every race like the pro's do they're great knee braces but other than that they are junk and i have the sergery scars to proove it.
I have used the original Cell braces for almost ten years and loved them, so when the Ultra Cell braces came out I was very excited to update. They seemed a bit bulky when I first tried them on but so does a lot of gear, so I put them away till I had a chance to ride a week or so later. I was very happy to find I could adjust them even with my pants on. The problems started as soon as I began to ride. The braces limited my range of motion and caused serious chaffing on the back of my legs. I tried to adjust them by starting from scratch but they just made riding a chore. I could not use my foot controls properly and had to remove the braces to even continue riding. When I got a chance to really check out the problem I found the Boa fasteners were contacting each other and that was limiting my range of motion. I found them to be a very poor design and chose to go back to my original cell braces which are no longer available. I sent in the original Cells for a refurbish. I would like to add that once again MotoSport was awsome in helping me deal with the situation!
Very expensive. but overall great product. Many adjustments too ensure proper fit. The added confidence and security make spending the money worth it. I have not "crash" tested these, and hope i never have to. but i feel they will do what they are designed to. Takes a little while to get used to riding with them. and kickstarting proved difficult at first. I would feel naked without them now.
Bad fitting, boa system is nothing special, fabric areas wore thru & ripped in no time, hard edges dig in everywhere, way too bulky.
will be buying pod mx's instead
Comfortable, i thought i would notice them bugging my knees more than they do. Once you get them adjusted fitment wise you wont even notice them. Also once you get them fitted then you can put them on and pull them off very easily with the BOA system. The sizing chart told me i needed a large pair so i bought them and a friend bought some mediums. It seems i could have ordered the mediums and they fit me a better. So the sizing is a little larger than what they say, if your on the bottom end of the large chart i would say go with a medium pair. The knee cap has padding glued on the inside. It catches the lower portion so the padding is getting pulled off, they could have used a little better glue.
These are great knee braces! That being said, they are bulky. I have gotten used to them now (after 3 months).
The quality is great and I love the BOA system. Makes it super fast to put on....
My right knee was blown out 2 years ago, so I bought a pair of these to protect the repaired knee, and the good knee.
I just got back from racing the Baja 500 with these braces: here is my review.
Over a long period of time, blisters formed on my knee caps. I think the main issue is that my pants are too tight.
The braces seem to offer great support. I do feel secure while wearing them. There is a fine line between having the adjustments too tight, and causing leg pump, or having them to loose, and not staying in place.
The movement is very smooth and the range of motion is plenty for dirt biking and snowboarding. The knee part of the brace swivel which allows the perfect motion for shifting/braking. The connector to the boot offers great security.
The bad thing is the bulkiness. When I first rode with these braces, my feet kept being tossed from the foot pegs. I finally realized that I wasn't gripping with my knees the same with these on. After an hour or so, I adjusted and now don't have that problem. I do notice that my feet slip sideways off the pegs still, its rare, but something that probably will always happen while riding with these. I ride a 450r, and with these braces it feels like I'm riding with a desert tank. If you already have a desert tank, it feels like youre riding a whale.
Overall I'm pleased. It however, took me a few rides to say that.
Silky smooth. I love them. They fit great. I gont get and more grinding and scratching from velcro. The boa reel. Works. And should be featured on every. Knee pad/guard
They’re a great set of guards; however I had two concerns:
1) They are little ‘bulky”, and although they offer great overall support and protection, they are a pain to get ridding pants over them.
2) I had a hard time felling the bike between my legs.
I ended up returning them a getting a pair of the PODS K700. I would recommend these, although I would look into the K700 as well.
Motosport’s customer service is the BEST, you guys have earned a customer for life…
I use mine in the winter for skiing and summer for riding.
I used to use the old asterisk for both, the older version had two snaps per brace.
But, I should say, the mx k700 are so much better. Lighter, slimmer and way more comfortable in both mx boots and resting above the ski boot.
