The Cyto Cell? Knee Protection System is based on the same anatomically correct frame and intricate eight sphere hinge design found on the top of the line Ultra Cell. This sleek new brace features a fiberglass tibial plateau-capturing frame design, sleek adjustable compression control cuffs, a natural free-motion, rolling-gliding hinge, classic strap fastening, a one-piece fused patella cup, and the all-important anti-rotation tether. The Cyto Cell design maintains the philosophy and features Asterisk believes is essential to a knee brace while also trying to take it easy on your wallet.

  • A.F.M Frame: Anatomically correct design; Fiberglass epoxy Matrix; Semi-rigid and lightweight, impact distributing structure.
  • Asymmetri-Glide Hinge: Tracks the "natural rolling-gliding" motion of the knee joint; Asymmetrical design allows each hinge to set properly; Allows for automatic tibia alignment of lower frame; Adjustable external regulator from 0° to 30°; Condyle shims for fine tuning fit.
  • A.C.C Cuff: Adjustable Compression Control; Adjustable semi-rigid lateral support; Adjuster cap; Non-slip Sharkskin padding; Adjustable nylon impact-modified compression strip; Anti-rotation connection.
  • Anti-Rotation Tether: Links the brace to the boot, making them as one; Transfers forces of a lower leg rotation; Adjustable to suit each individual.
  • Straps: Standard adjustable strapping.
  • Fused Patella Cup: Lower and main patella fused design; Easily removable; High-impact Nylon 6 material; Hybrid shock-absorbent foam padding.
  • Water Resistant: Non-corrosive metals; Non-corrosive composites; Hand washable soft materials.
  • Note: Sold as Left / Right pair.

Best Buy for the Money and Good Fit

I'm pleased with mine so far, I've used them in a couple of races and practices, while they make it super difficult to squeeze the bike with my knees, and do put the wear and tear on your pants; their still worth it. I had a minor crash and could tell they definitely helped. I don't like they fit with mx boots, but I've talked to others with these braces and it seems to be my personal distaste. Didn't expect the brace to go inside the top of the boot, but that seems to be a good design, it just makes it harder to get a proper fit on your boot and getting the brace positioned just right.

Asterisk

I was thinking about going back to straps from the wire ratchet version I have now to reduce bulk but the straps are a bit narrow and the loop is not easy to thread so I will return these and stay with the more bulky but easier to get in and out of version......

Great product

These fit great and I don't even know that I am wearing them until I need them. I spent some time getting the fitment right with the straps by walking around the shop with them on and adjusting as needed. One reason I purchased these is that the extra width makes it so much easier to grip the bike with your knees. The engineering and design of the product impressed me and puts it above its competitors. I consider the investment in high quality safety equipment well worth it.

Good Design

Very slim knee brace, with my riding pants on I still have slack in the knee area, and I don't wear a next size up pant to compensate for the braces. Not restrictive at all, they track your leg geometry so well that when your sitting on your seat the upper leg part of the brace still sits flush with your leg, not sticking out your pants in your lap like a lot of other braces. They don't slip at all and are surprisingly grippy with the "shark skin" liner they use, its like a rubber and sticks to your skin or sleeve pretty well. I bought these because the Asterisks seems to have the best design theory as far as safety with the adjustable oversized cuffs and boot tether. The whole shape of the design looks like it was designed with purpose rather than something asymmetrical and simple like everything else priced over $400. Cant say anything bad about them that they would truly need improving, they just do the job and allow full movement for riding. And if youre worried about coverage protection in the patella area, don't forget you can upgrade to the ultra cell patella piece too.

Are these slimmer in the lower leg cuffs than the original with the laces on the back?
I have large calves and lower leg so my current asterisk are hard to fit into my boots.

Yes the Cyto Cell cuffs are much more slimmer, or less bulkier, than the cuffs on the Cell & Ultra Cell, even the old style Cell. Should have no trouble with them, just depends on the persons legs & boot, etc. But I usually never hear of any trouble with the Cyto cuffs not fitting into the boots.

Sizing?
I've never bought knew braces before. When I measured my kneecap, per the instructions, I'm exactly on the line between Medium and Large. So, I wanted to get some feedback on whether it's typical, in these cases, to defer to the smaller size, or the larger. Thanks.

Yes, the brace sleeves must be purchased separately, they are not included. These braces will include the brace themselves, the anti-rotation tethers and the adjustment hardware for motion limiting.

MEASURING INSTRUCTIONS

The Mid Kneecap measurement should be the basis for the size. To ensure a proper fit, circumference measurements should be taken directly on the skin with the leg straightened, using a soft tape measure. (If a soft tape measure is not available, a piece of string or yarn may be used to calibrate the leg’s diameter, then measured against a hard tape measure). Locate the middle of the kneecap and measure around the leg. Measurements should be taken directly on the skin with a straight leg.
