If you need lightness...

(Note: Review is of the Pista GP - Carbon, same helmet, no graphics)

I've used lightweight race helmets for several years now. This one is among the lightest. Not only that, but it fits my brick-like intermediate/long-oval head like a glove...helmet. The field of view when racing around a track is so broad and clear that you forget that you are even wearing a helmet. These visors are incredibly clear and distortion-free. And thick! I had a hardened marble bounce off my face while rushing for a corner that would have seriously damaged a typical visor. Air flow is good-to-great, with a big emphasis on heat extraction. Buffeting is almost non-existent, even with gusts strong enough to upset the bike. I was able to give all of my concentration over to following my line and keeping track of the other racers around me. For a race helmet, this thing can't be beat. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the little rubber bumper on the end of the chin bar! No more buzzing in your ears while tucked onto the fuel tank!

As for the street however... Well, the method AGV used to raise the field of view above the brow line was to simply move the eye port up an extra centimeter or two. This means the chin bar cuts into your down-and-side vision. If you sit straight up, you can't see your mirrors. Head-checking traffic to make lane changes is a bit more complicated. The tear-off posts look silly (removable, but it leaves holes in the visor). Air flow at speeds under 50mph isn't great when compared to street-specific helmets. You'll go deaf without top-quality ear plugs (included with the helmet, amazingly!). This is a racing helmet, pure and simple. Absolutely no concessions were made in its design to make it reasonable for the street. Oh, and did I mention the price of visors? Be ready to fork over anywhere from $65-$85. These are the same visors for the AGV Corsa, which is the more "street-oriented" (yeah right...still has the same blind spots) version of this same helmet. If you get a Pista GP or Corsa for the street, you're going to be disappointed.

-Fitment (the padding is fully adjustable inside the helmet)
-Field of view (when racing)
-Air flow (when racing)
-Appearance (real head-turner)
-Ease of cleaning (lots of bugs at the track)

-Blind spots (street problem only)
-Tear-off posts on all visors (my track does not allow their use)
-NOISE (it's a race helmet - wear ear plugs)
-Expense (nothing on this helmet is cheap - pads, visors, parts, etc.)
-The shell is quite large for the size - not as big as a Bell, but close

Only buy this helmet if you are a dedicated racer. Or if you just like to have a good-looking helmet sitting on the table at the coffee shop. But seriously, this thing isn't made for or meant to be used on the street. Buyer be warned.
