Great purchase!

It's worth every penny! Fits great with my Atlas neck brace. The chest protector is so comfortable that I forget I'm even wearing it! My son has borrowed it and keeps threatening to take it. I love how adjustable it is and the way it wraps around my sides too. I will not go back to my previous style chest protector and will probably buy another for my son.

So good, I had to get another!

This is actually my second purchase of this chest protector. The first one has lasted me several years and has only just started to wear out. I have been involved in numerous crashes and this protector has held up beautifully.

It's very flexible and the venting keeps me much cooler than other protectors. I'd recommend this to anyone that wants a durable protector that stands up to abuse and is also very comfortable to wear.

Excellent Over-Jersey Chest Protector

I've got a few rides under my belt with this chest protector and there's a couple things I really liked and disliked about it. Since it's supposed to function as both under and over the jersey, I'll review it under both contexts.

OVER: The CP5955 fits awesome over the jersey, staying just where you want it, and protecting the right parts of your body with an effective hard plastic. It hugs the body tightly, but doesn't restrict movement or feel stifling at all. It gives me the sense of security that I like from wearing chest pro, but doesn't feel bulky or in-the-way. In fact, I hardly noticed it was there while riding. Even the gnarliest 450 roost was handled perfectly by the CP, and the bicep protection worked better than my old Fox Airframe.

It worked great with my kidney belt, making my whole torso feel well-protected. I don't wear a neck brace, but it seems to be designed with them in mind, it even has a little arrow on the plastic where you can fit them.

UNDER: Getting a jersey on over the CP5955 is a little tricky. It wants to hang up on the edges of the plastic, so it can be a little annoying to put on by yourself. If you have a buddy who can help pull down the back it's a lot easier. While riding in the warm weather the under-jersey option feels stifling. It doesn't allow your body to breathe, and becomes a bit uncomfortable after a few laps. In cold weather it's fine, but when you're done riding it's a little uncomfortable, and obviously you need to take off the jersey to remove it. This is annoying for both the fact that you have to go through that trouble, but also because putting the jersey back on over it is a bit of a pain.

Now, aside from the stifling hot-weather and the trick of putting on the jersey, it works great under the jersey. It doesn't look bulky or unnatural, and provides all the protection of an actual chest protector (unlike those cheesy foam "vests" that don't do jack). If I was doing a long pro-moto or something where I wanted to look as professional and clean as possible, I would probably choose the under-jersey option. But for practice riding it just seems impractical.

The CP5955 also comes with a little kit of extra bolts and a tool to use on them. This way you can replace ones that fall out, and remove parts of the chest pro you don't like. I didn't see a need to remove any of the pieces, but you can remove the back, the lower back, and the upper arm-pads.

Like a glove

This chest protector is top notch. And should be for the price. The first time I put it on I felt secure. This thing fits like a glove and is well made. It has plenty of adjustability for just about any fit that you would like. Very highly recommended

Already Saved Me

This is so much more than a chest protector. It provides excellent chest, back, and shoulder protection. It also provides protection around the sides of the ribs.
My first weekend wearing the Shock Doctor, I went over the bars and the bike crashed down on top of me. I still finished that moto and 3 more for the weekend with no problems and I am nearly 40!

Well worth the money

The price is long forgotten when the quality remains. This is an awesome piece of gear. Not gonna lie, it hurts the pocket a little shelling out 2 notes for it. but it's worth every penny. offers great shoulder protection. its probably the heaviest of all chest protectors but it fits so well that its barely noticeable when riding. pay for what you get.

Troy Lee Designs Shock Doctor CP5955 Chest Protect

Great Troy Lee, Shock Doctor CP5955 Chest Protector. I chosen Troy Lee Shock Doctor because of my Pro Bionic Neck brace does work with the Troy Lee Shock Doctor chest protector. The Pro Bionic Neck Brace does rise a slight bit with the Shock Doctor chest protector, but with this slight critique this is still a great combination.

Not so great product!

If you wear a Leatt brace and like to wear your chest protector inside your jersey you won't like this product. Taking it a part to fit the Leatt was a real pain and I thought the craftmanship wasn't so hot either I ended up returning the product. I have other Troy Lee products and have liked their products but this one wasn't so hot.

Just got it

Really impressed. So lite weight and fits like a glove. Feels awesome. The fact it's so adjustable and you can take off any pieces you want is amazing. Construction feels real durable too. Buy this thing!

Best most comfortable well made chesty around

I have had this for 2 years now and it feels and performs as well as the day I bought it. I have had zero problems with the workmanship. I went over the bars downhilling in Mammoth at about 50 mph on a road transfer section.... rung my bell, saw stars and although very sore came out unscathed as I went down in a lot of rocks. There were a lot of scratches but the chesty did not compromise one bit. This poor review above is completely wrong. I research everything and you will not find a better product. It feels like you are being hugged by cozy blankets when your wearing it... the fit is that good. I just got the new top of the line Thor for my wife.... pure garbage when compared to the craftsmanship of the shock doctor. You will not be disappointed

Looks Good, Fits Good, Rides Good

Very Adjustable. Large was good for me. 6' 185. Leatte fits nicely. Havent taken a big one with it (yet) so not sure on durability, but lots coverage, especially on shoulders (where I need it)

Excellent for those looking for actual protection

I'm a 44 yr old rider that has a history of lots of broken bones. I was looking for something that was mnore than just the (useless) roost protection-- I wanted something that was more like shoulder pads in football -- something that could reduce the liklihood of a separated shoulder/collar bone fracture/broken ribs (all which I have had before).

It has better mobility and freedom of movement than the previous armour I had (the previous style I had was a mesh jacket that had the pads built in--too restricting--made me tired).

What I like best are 2 things: The pads are substantial-- the shoulder and rib protection looks like it will really do something. The second is that it is still light wieght and doesn't hinder movement.

I like this product much better than a roost protector and better than the 2 other armour suits I have owned/tried.

I wear this everytime I ride.

Shock Doctor CP5955 "RAD"

Very stoked on this purchase. I have been looking for a tough form fitting chesty for a long time. The shock doctor fits perfect & my camel back fits over over it nicely too.. I've been performing some unexpected field testing recently! I took a massive digger into the trees bounced my chest off the bars. Shock Doc took a major blow from my steering stabilizer & I'm pretty sure it kept me from breaking my clavical! Super happy with TLD Shock Doc, worth it's weight in gold
Just one Guy's opinion!

I was a little skeptical to pay $200 for a chest protector but after my fist ride with the CP 5955 I am completly satisfied. I got to completely test it when I wrecked going way too fast on a very rocky trail and landed flat on my back. The holes in my riding jersey showed me that the 5955 saved my shoulders and back big time. I walked away with no bruises except to my thighs. I'm 5'8" 170lb and the medium fit like it was tailored to fit me. It isn't too noticeable while riding and fits under my jersey no problem.

Poor for price

"I bought the higher priced version (CP5955) of this same CP and was quite disappointed as soon as I opened the box. First, the side rib extension pad broke off on one side before I even put it on and the other side is about to break off. Second, the construction was extremely poor. I had to redo two different locations. Practically every bolt was loose and the allen wrenches don't even fit the bolts well as if the bolt fasteners are metric and the wrenches are standard U.S. Thirdly, it looks as though the CP provides more coverage but does not. In fact, after comparing, my ten year old Thor Aftershock protector provides more square inch coverage. Fourthly, the stitching is weak. In addition, the protector fits me a little tight around the chest although I'm 200 lbs but am not big chested. The CP tag says its for a 40-45" chest circumference however Motosports did not tell me it was inch size specific. Furthermore, I bought this CP in hopes of it providing more rib and kidney protection, but it does not. I can't believe Troy Lee would put his name on such a poor product and Shock Doctor would make such a poor product."

Good protection...

Disappointed that there were no sizing information or instructions. It is difficult to get my Laett Brace on with it...but it works. I will say that it fits nice and snug and I think that it will give a high level of protection in a crash.

Best fitting chest protector ever

Very comfortable and the articulated frame allows for ease of movement. Fits under jersey once I removed the upper arm guards. This may be due to my size 6'3' 215 lbs. with broad shoulders. Protector is compatible with Leatt neck brace by removing small section of breast plate. To early to tell about durability but constuction looks first rate.

A: Fitment cannot be guaranteed with all neck braces, for every rider. With that said the Troy Lee Designs Shock Doctor CP5955 Chest Protector design is compatible with leading neck braces without compromising fit and protection. You shouldn't have any compatibility problems.

A: I would suggest you look at products from Leatte and Alpinestar for the most protection. Most of their products have also been CE certified.

A: Yes, this is compatible with the Atlas Neck Brace. Typically this style chest protector is worn over the jersey but can be worn under as well. Keep in mind you may need to go up a size in the jersey if you do.

A: The forearm guards are attached to the shoulder guards. It looks like shoulder guard can be removed with three bolts. I haven't tried it. The whole chest protector fits easily under the jersey.
