The MotoSport.com Sunstar Chain & Steel Sprocket Kit includes ONE Steel Countershaft (Front) Sprocket, ONE Steel Rear Sprocket, and your choice of ONE Premium 420 Drive Chain, each with the following features:

Sprockets / Chainwheels Included:

Sunstar is the largest O.E.M. supplier of sprockets and brake rotors in the world. In fact, your motorcycle probably came from the factory with a Sunstar sprocket. Need a reason to choose Sunstar? Every Sunstar product is imbued with superior quality, uses an exclusive heat-treatment and quenching process, is based on advanced research and design, and is sold at an added value price.

Sunstar Front Sprocket 420:

  • Manufactured from case-hardened chromoly steel for the ultimate in strength and durability.
  • "Parkerizing" surface treatment for rust and corrosion resistance.

Sunstar Steel Rear Sprocket 420:

  • Manufactured using only the highest quality 1045 high-carbon steel.
  • Exclusive heat treatment for added strength and wear resistance.
  • Most are zinc plated and have a baked-on durable paint process for corrosion resistance.
  • The strongest, longest lasting steel replacement sprocket available.

Your Choice of Drive Chain:

D.I.D 420 Standard Chain - 120 or 126 Links:

The D.I.D Standard Non-O-Ring Chain is designed for low horsepower, smaller displacement mopeds, scooters and vintage motorcycles.

  • For machines originally equipped with non-O-ring chains.
  • Solid rollers.
  • Shot-peened parts.
  • High cylindrical and roundness accuracy.
  • Exacting tolerances provide low friction.
  • Pre-stretched.
  • Special alloy steel with extended riveted bushing "anti-kink" design.
  • Highest quality non-O-ring chain in overall combined performance.
  • Average tensile strength of 4,200 pounds.
  • Wear life index: 100.
  • Includes clip-style master link.
  • 120 or 126 links.
  • Note: Non-sealed chains require more regular maintenance than sealed (O-ring, X-ring) versions and are mainly recommended for off-road use.

D.I.D 420 NZ3 Gold Chain - 120 or 126 Links:

Pinning your bike out of every turn might tear apart the stock chain, but D.I.D and their 420NZ3 Gold chain will not let you, or your race for first, down.

  • For machines originally equipped with non-O-ring chains.
  • Solid rollers.
  • Shot-peened parts.
  • High cylindrical and roundness accuracy.
  • Exacting tolerances provide low friction.
  • DHA pin treatment - hard chromium-carbide layer formed on pin surface for exceptional strength and wear resistance.
  • Pre-stretched.
  • Special alloy steel with extended riveted bushing "anti-kink" design.
  • Highest quality non-O-ring chain in overall combined performance.
  • Up to 19% higher tensile strength; average tensile strength of 4,780 pounds.
  • Wear life index: 410.
  • Weight (per 100 links): 1.81 pounds.
  • Includes a clip-style master link.
  • 120 or 126 links.
  • Note: Non-sealed chains require more regular maintenance than sealed (O-ring, X-ring) versions and are mainly recommended for off-road use.

Renthal 420 R1 Chain - 120 or 130 Links:

Renthal's R1 Works Chain is a high-strength non O-ring chain with excellent impact load resistance designed specifically to withstand the stress found in off-road applications. This chain is the choice where a combination of high strength, light weight and maximum power transfer are important considerations.

  • Shot-peened alloy steel side plates for high tensile strength and maximum impact load resistance.
  • Chamfered inner links to reduce the chance of chain derailment.
  • Extended bushings to reduce friction between outer and inner link plates, maximizing power output.
  • Chromized bearing pins for excellent resistance to wear.
  • Gold color side plates help prevent corrosion.
  • Most perfectly matched chain for Renthal sprockets allowing maximum power at the rear wheel. This also extends the life of both the chain and sprockets.
  • Average tensile strength of 4,271 pounds.
  • Wear life index: 300.
  • Maximum displacement (street / off-road): N/A / 150cc.
  • Weight (per 100 links): 1.76 pounds.

  • Note: Non-sealed chains require more regular maintenance than sealed (O-ring, X-ring) versions and are mainly recommended for off-road use.

Sunstar 420 MXR1 Works MX Racing Chain - 126 Links:

Sunstar's MXR1 Works MX / SX / Off-Road race chain (MXR = Motocross Xtreme Racing) is a premium quality, highly durable non-sealed chain specifically designed for Motocross, Supercross and/or off-road racing. Featuring Sunstar's oversized TripleStar treated ultra hard pins and 100% heat treated components, the MXR1 chain is constructed to handle the demands of the highest levels of racing. Its combination of strength, durability and light weight make it the top choice for serious racers.

  • Deep gold side plates and gold inner plates.
  • Super strong and lightweight design for high performance / racing mini off-road and motocross machines.
  • Utilizes TST (TripleStar Treated) ultra-hard pins and 100% heat treated components for high strength and durability.
  • Seamless rollers and bushings help provide the added life and durability.
  • Average tensile strength of 4,970 pounds.
  • Maximum rated displacement (street / off-road): 150cc / 150cc.
  • Weight (per 100 links): 1.76 pounds.

Sun Star Chain & Sproket Set

I called Moto sports to ask about their Chain & Sprockets combination set. I was originally going to order the aluminum set for more $$$! The customer service person told me, the steel sprocket will last longer. Not only did he answer my question, he saved me money. I like the fact, I can call a company and get new information. Because, lets face it; we all know it all, right? NOT, at least I don't. The prices are spot on, the quality is super. Plus, you have Brett Cue! One day, he will be a Legend! Among the motorcycle Gods of the Whip! I really enjoy the Youtube video's by the way! Keep up the great customer service! Matt

Great combo

gave 4 stars on style because it would be nice to have a different color on the back sprocket, other than that its a great combo and the sunstar sprockets have always done well with durability on any bike!

Sunstar Sprockets w/ Renthal R1 Gold

Great combo of chain and sprockets. The steel lasts a lot longer than the aluminum and the renthal gold chain is the perfect pick to hold up with everything else! And it obviously looks good.

Can you get this chain and sprocket set for a 1973 Hodaka combat wombat? Thanks Bud

Sorry we do not have sprockets available for your 1973 Hodaka model 95 combat wombat. I would contact Sprocket Specialties. They should be able to make sprockets for your bike.

What chain will last longest?

Chain life will really depend on multiple factors, maintenance (how clean and oiled you keep your chain), riding conditions, bike, ect. I personally run the DID ERT2 chain and get a lot of life out of it. Its also a very strong chain.

I have a Honda TRX90, would having larger than stock sprockets increase speed over hard surfaces?
The sprockets and chain need replaced, the chain keeps derailing at low speeds.
MotoSport Staff Expert

For more top end speed you would want to go down on the back and/or up on the front. For bottom end you would go up on the back sprocket and/or down on the front. Feel free to give us a call at 888-676-8853 and we would be happy to help you out with your order.

On the top of page it says pitch of 428 for xr100?
is that the same as Premium 420 Drive chain and Sprocket kit
Expert MotoSport Staff
MotoSportExpert
The 428 would be the correct size for the XR100, not the 420. 420 and 428 are not the same size. Feel free to give us a call at 888-676-8853 and we would be happy to help you out with your order.

I have a drz125 2009 and I need a front and rear tire and a front and rear sprocket an chain. What do I need??
MotoSport Staff Expert
MotoSportExpert
Gearing would depend on what kind of riding you are doing and how the current gearing is working for you now. Stock gearing would be 14/51 and you may want to go up or down from there. Tire choice would also depend on the riding you are doing and the terrain (soft, medium, hard) that you are riding on. Feel free to give us a call at 888-676-8853 and we would be happy to help you out with your order.

I got a 2002 Honda xr100. what size chain should I get?
Expert MotoSport Staff
MotoSportExpert
It would depend on what size sprockets you are running. If you are going larger than the stock 14/50 I would suggest going with the 130L. If you are going with stock or smaller gearing the 120L chain should do it.

I wanna convert my 150f from a 520 to a 428 can you tell me what front and rear sprocket fits?
Expert MotoSport Staff
MotoSportExpert
We do not carry a 428 conversion for your Honda CRF150R. I would try Sprocket Specialist or Sidewinder sprockets.

Crf150rb chain?
i just went through a regular DID chain on my 2012 crf150rb. do u think i should get a o ring chain or a gold chain ?
MotoSport Staff Expert

I recommend the DID 420 NZ3 Chain, it will be a lot stronger than a standard chain and will last longer. Most importantly make sure to keep your chain clean and well-oiled along with proper chain tension to help extend the life of your chain.

Go gold. I had the sunstar with standard DID and was always constantly adjusting. The gold renthal is a good upgrade.. little bit more money but a lot more life. Don't need o-ring or x-ring unless youre running a like 450. They rob a lot of power and only eliminate the need for adjustment since they don't stretch.

No, it does not.
Also remember to locktight the sprocket bolts when replacing the rear sprocket, they like to come loose.

No it does not but a bolt kit is less then ten dollars so that should not make you second guess this kit
