Notes on Manufacturer Chain Type:

  • XRC-ring - Proprietary Pro Taper X-ring technology developed and tested exclusively to handle the extreme temperatures and conditions of off-road riding and racing.

Note for installing X-ring chains: As X-ring chains are wider than standard roller chains, when fitting an X-ring chain to a motorcycle that was fitted with a non O-ring chain as original equipment, it is essential to check that there is proper clearance of the engine cases near the countershaft sprocket and any other places of close contact. Failure to do so could result in damage to the chain and motorcycle and could ultimately cause the chain to fail.

Note: Image is for reference ONLY, actual product will vary based on fitment and selection.

Some Helpful Tools: Try the Motion Pro Chain Breaker & Riveting Tool or BikeMaster's Heavy-Duty Chain Breaker & Rivet Tool to make removing your old chain and installing your new chain as easy and painless as possible.

  • Highest value in all D.I.D series.
  • D.I.D X-Ring has half the friction and 50 - 100% longer wear life compared to typical O-ring chains.
  • Superior longer life than previous VM series.
  • Solid rollers.
  • Shot-peened parts.
  • Pre-stretched.
  • Extended riveted bushing "Anti-Kink" design.
  • Replaces the Professional O-ring V Series and the Premium X-ring VM series chains.
  • Average tensile strength of 8,210 pounds.
  • Wear life index: 3500.
  • Ideal for bikes and ATV's up to 750cc.
  • Weight (per 100 links): 3.35 pounds.
  • Includes clip-style master link.

Half the Power Loss - Compared with Normal O-ring chains, D.I.D's patented X-Ring construction reduces friction by twisting between the side plates instead of being squashed. Normal O-rings and other makers' modified O-rings have squashed points that increase friction. The twisting action of the X-Ring disperses the pressure and minimizes power loss.

1.5 to 2 Times Longer Wear Resistance - Compared with Normal O-ring chains, the X-Ring's four contact points greatly increase its sealing performance. This keeps the dirt out and the lubrication in much better than any other O-ring. X-Rings have the greatest wear resistance of any other type of O-ring or non-O-ring chain.

D.I.D 520 ERV3 X-Ring Chain:

The D.I.D ERV3 X-ring chain is the ultimate high-performance, lightweight, low-friction race chain available and is used extensively by many off-road race teams. The ERV3 X-ring chain utilizes D.I.D's patented X-ring technology which reduces friction by 50% over standard O-ring chains for minimized power loss. The pins on the ERV3 X-ring chain have been put through a patented heat-treatment process to produce a pin that is 1.5 times harder than conventional pins. The result is a chain that is significantly stronger and offers better wear resistance than many other chains on the market. D.I.D ERV3 X-ring chains feature a gold-plated finish that resists rust and adds a little style to your motorcycle or ATV.

Longer Lasting

So far I am quite impressed with the durability of this chain in sprocket kit. I went with the X-Ring chain, which was new for me. However, I gave it 3 stars for ease of installation because my buddy's dad, who has worked on bikes for many years, even said that it was the most difficult master-link he had ever installed. Also, I've noticed after a few rides that the sprocket gets this really thin silver mark below the teeth almost as if it is rubbing or warped. The sprocket teeth have lasted a lot of rides and is still in really good condition. If you want something that lasts longer I recommend this.

Great Product!

I have had great luck using pro taper sprockets with a DID chain.

They are durable and look sweet on my YZ!

Great wear resistance

Have about 20hrs on chain and sprocket with only needing tightened twice. Exactly what to expect from pro-taper, greatly quality.

One of the best.

i got this sproket on my 2010 yz250 and it really lasts, if i had gotten a rethal sproket i would have had to reaplace it two times over by now.

Great Sprockets

I was extremely surprised 5 months after i bought and installed these sprockets, that they are just now starting to saw tooth. The front has wore a little faster than the rear but both have held very well on my 2007 Crf250R.

Its an amazing product

My friend just purchased these about a month ago and put them on his 06' YZ85 and they are awsome sprockets. These are way better than the stock ones. You can feel the difference when riding it. The torque almost throws you off when on the track or trails. Its an affordable product and great product that will last for years.

Not a good buy

The rear sprocket wore really fast on my yz250f i had probably 3-4 hours on it and it was worn out already I have bought a Tag rear sprocket for almost half the price and it is lasting much longer i dont know if i just had a bad one from this company or not i have always liked pro taper products before but as far as rear sprockets go i will not buy another one

Good fit and finish

Way too soon to tell how long they're going to hold up, but fit and finish is excellent. Judging by the apparent quality, I'd be tempted to believe they'll last at least as long as the originals. I've got a year + on a 200XC and a 250XC-F OEM stuff.

Not that good

Only lasted 2 Months riding motox on clay in upstate NY. Stock sunstar rear sprocket lasted longer.

Killer sprockets

I bought these sprockets at the begining of this season because my renthals were warn and curved. I should say I live in montana and i ride every day and the terain is rock to race track. I ride a yz250f and it is tricked with hot cams Dr. d's pipes and alot of other mods. I still don't show any wear and I am the guy that take his chain and oils it after every ride. I would buy these again and again. Buy this and you wont be disopointed.

Q: I have these sprockets on my 2010 yz450f and i ripped all the teeth off?
2 years 8 months ago
SO im just wondering if these have been upgraded or anything or why i could have ripped them all off cause i always keep my chain to the tightening spec that it should be. maybe it is just because i am not running that good of a chain i don't know but my question is will the DID ERV3 X-Ring chain and the Pro-taper front and back sprockets hold up the only thing done i have to my bike is a full FMF 4.1rct with the Megabomb header so it doesn't have so much power that it just eats sprockets?? Please answer!! My front sprocket seems to be fine its just the back that got ate for some reason?

A: Any aluminum rear sprocket will not last last as long as a steel sprocket, the countershaft sprockets are made of steel which is why it is outlasting your rear sprockets. Riding conditions and how often you lube the chain can greatly affect the life of an aluminum rear sprocket. If you ride in sandy or muddy conditions they will wear much quicker than a steel counterpart. Also a like you mentioned, a lower quality chain can also affect the lifespan of sprockets. The DID ERV3 Is an excellent chain and is highly recommended, but for the best lifespan I would pair it with a steel sprocket. There are standard steel sprockets available, a hybrid option from Renthal called the Twinring that has an aluminum inner portion with a steel outer ring and teeth, and then there is is the Sunstar Works-Z Stainless steel sprocket. The Sunstar stainless sprocket will last 3 times longer than a steel sprocket and has a lifespan 10 times longer than an aluminum sprocket. While the stainless sprocket costs a little more initially, it definitely recoups the cost by how long it will last.

A: Make sure that your wheel alignment is correct. Slightly offset will chew up sprockets and wear chain really fast. Don't rely on axle blocks, measure to a fixed point with tape measure.
