Buy It!

Great Product. Bought it for a 2001 Honda 400EX. Ten times better then the thumb throttle! Takes some mechanical understanding to install. Took about an hour. Easy to adjust. Highly recommend.

Big Red!

Put this on a 3-wheeler, I thought the thumb throttle was idiotic, and it was also sticking. I picked up a kit that wasn't intended for my machine - think it was for a Kawasaki and on clearance - but it went on just fine and doesn't get jammed at WOT any more. The twist throttle has a quicker action than the thumb throttle did, was twitchy at first but it didn't take long to get use to. It helps if you don't ride with a death-grip, otherwise a twist throttle on a bike that doesn't lean when you turn can be sketchy.

Great conversion

The twist throttle allows one to use the manual transmission the way one is used to on a motorcycle. While some say it is more dangerous than a thumb throttle, the thumb control does not allow for a complete hand grip around the bar while pushing the thumb throttle. Now I can hold the grip better and control the quad as well as I control my dirtbike. It was a simple conversion as well.

Amazing, Just What I Needed!

Everybody would always tell me to stay away from twist throttles on quads like the plague, and although I held off for some time, I finally gave in due to excessive thumb fatigue on my 06 YFZ450. Boy, was I glad I did! I have been using it for about 3 months now, and have had only one experience where an overshot jump caused me to unintentionally give it throttle. But the pros outweigh the cons. I no longer get thumb/hand fatigue, and I actually have much more control over the throttle than I used to.

The only negative part of this was the installation. On the YFZ450, you have to override the TORS system, which is actually extremely simple (they include a little black plastic looped wire that plugs into the wire socket to mimic the throttle, effectively eliminating the TORS system), after the hour I spent trying to identify the terms used in the instructions. The instructions are not vague, however; they are very precise. But you have to know what the terms mean, otherwise it will take quite a while trying to figure it out.

Of course, it is all personal preference, and the only way to find out is to try it. If you have never operated a twist throttle before, it will inevitably take some getting used to, but it is worth it.

Good quality product

Everything I expected from Motion Pro. I have purchased 4 twist throttles in the past and never had any trouble. I you think you might want to try a twist throttle on your quad, this is the way to go. Not too expensive, and can be reversed if not happy.

Ok product

kind of annoying how i had to take off the gas tank to put it on, and also once i got it on and running it stuck wide open a couple of times wish i would of just kept the thumb throttle and avoided these problems

The purpose of theTHROTTLE OVERRIDE SYSTEM is to turn off the ignition if the carburetor slide sticks open in the throttle body. When the stock thumb throttle and carburetor top/switch assembly are removed, this system is disabled. When working on 1988-2001 models, the ignition system will also be disabled. The control box, located inside the front left fender, must be removed for the ignition system to work. When working on 2002 and later models it is not necessary to remove the control box, just unplug the lower electrical connector from the stock thumb throttle and loop together the two pin connecter where the stock thumb throttle attaches on the main wire harness or where the thumb throttle plugs into the CDI box. Either way, you are connecting the plug back in where it was disconnected from (One way to loop the connections is to use the last three inches of the thumb throttle lower connection attach the two wires together and plug back into the main harness). Cover all exposed wires and connector's with electrical tape. Or, use Motion Pro Switch Elimination Coupler Assembly part number 11-0040 and snap coupler directly into existing 2 pin connector where the thumb throttle was plugged into the main harness. THE THROTTLE OVERRIDE SYSTEM IS NOW DISABLED.
I would recommend contacting Motion Pro directly at (650) 594-9600 or http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/contact/

The motion Pro kits for the 400ex are NOT listed as 1/4 kits. They would be like a stock dirtbike or as you mentioned 1/2 turn.
