I returned these after trying them on. I didn't want to field test these and then not be able to return them. The padding IMO, is way too thick. I believe they could probably achieve the same amount of protection if they used half the padding thickness if they used some kind of plastic on the outside of the padding. When I wear protective clothing, I don't want to be constantly reminded that I'm wearing something with padding because I can feel all the extra bulk. I feel you could achieve close to the same amount of protection with a pair of Troy Lee Designs Shock Doctor BP7605 shorts. They are lighter, less obtrusive and cost half as much. One more thing. If you make a waistband out of a quality expanding stretchy material, then you shouldn't need a drawstring. I was reminded how much I dislike drawstrings after trying these on.
