This is one of those purchases that will pay for its self the first time or 2 that you use it. Sturdy, heavy duty, great finish on it. The only thing that I would note is that using a dial indicator with a magnetic base would save alot of time and guesswork

I've only recently decided to start lacing my own wheels, so I can't say I've got a lot of experience with truing stands. That said, this stand is heavy-duty, holding my MX wheels securely while working.
I did have an issue with the adjustable bar seen attached to the right side of the stand in the photo. It's designed to slide both vertically and horizontally in order for the tip to be placed close to the rim (for measuring runout). Unfortunately, the horizontal adjustment has so much slop in it that I was unable to get the bar close to the rim. I ended up using a pencil in place of the supplied bar, and that worked surprisingly well.
I'm a big do-it-yourself kind of guy so balancing my own wheels made sense. I searched around and only a few quality products are out there. You can spend a lot or a little, but I'm a big fan of spending a little more to get something high quality. I wasn't looking for portability so this balancer was perfect for me. The construction is high quality using heavy gauge steel for the stand and fully adjustable feet to ensure it is level. The bubble level also makes it easy to get right quickly.
The only issue I had with this unit was the shaft for balancing was not true. I checked it with a dial indicator and it was off by about 0.020" which wasn't good. It was noticeable with a wheel on the unit. I contacted BikeMaster and they stand behind their products. They apologized and sent me a replacement with no hassle.
I would give this a full 5 stars for fit, but I had a single-sided swingarm so I needed additional adapters to make the rear wheel work with this unit. Otherwise, this is yet another great quality product from BikeMaster!
I purchased this to true and balance my 1976 FXE. My front wheel is spoke, and I recently replaced the rim and spokes and needed a good stand to true and balance the wheel. I purchased this stand because of the features, bubble level, both truing and balancing points.
I was not satisfied with how the truing points worked, so I used the main shaft and balance cones instead. It worked perfect. I also used a magnetic dial-indicator instead of the rod. I was easily able to dial my wheel in to .015" both axial and radially.
Balancing the wheel was a piece of cake. This stand holds the wheel steady and you can pick the correct wheel weights quickly.
This stand really excels in what it was designed for. I now look forward to truing and balancing my wheels!
Works great and seems very well made
I just assembled the stand and everything looks good. Only thing I will add is a nut to lock the center screw shaft from turning while spinning the wheel during the truing process. I feel it's a great buy.
I was tired of paying the locals shop $40 to $50 mount and balance ONE tire. Especially when I was bringing it in off of the bike. This will save you a lot of money in the long run if you can change a tire.
-It comes with shaft, cones and spacers to fit just about any wheel.
-Fits wheel widths from 30 cm to 54 cm.
